Vacationers on cruise ships will be allowed to disembark in Thailand, CCSA says

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Wednesday resolved to allow foreigners to disembark luxury cruise liners that drop anchor in Thailand, the centre’s spokesman Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

The Tourism and Sports Ministry has said some 60 boats carrying 650 foreigners have asked for permission to enter the country. They are expected to generate revenue of up to Bt2.1 billion.

The travellers will have to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine and be tested for the virus three times. If they test negative, then they will be allowed to travel across Thailand.

CCSA is set to formally discuss the reduction of the quarantine period next week. It also decided on Wednesday to extend the state of emergency put in place nationwide to curb Covid-19 infections by another month to the end of November.

The centre will propose its resolution to the Cabinet on October 27, he added.

2.1 billion divided by 650 foreigners is 3.230.769 Baht per foreigner. Please correct me if this is wrong. If not the tourists might be billionaires only... The new very very high quality tourists are coming.

so that's another 2.1 billion baht .....   5.3 Trillion +  2.1 billion = 5.51 Trillion baht coming ...

it just keeps going up & up    !!      lol

Right now and before a vaccine was found i will not board any ship even if you pay me and put me in first class, those ships are nothing but floating disaster waiting to happen even without the thetas of the Covid being unhygienic in general...

It's like "Alice in Wonderland" thinking!  I don't understand how these government morons can go on the record with such utter nonsense.   Almost every cruise ship is being either hot stored at various anchorages, some are mothballed and some are being scrapped.

And the billionaires....they were never on those ships, they have their own!

So, is each of 60 ships carrying 650 passengers (so it is a big cruise liner) for 39,000 total passengers, or do the ships have an average of 11 passengers each for a total of about 650 passengers (in which case they are likely private yachts). Big difference.

You raise a valid point are they private yachts or cruise ships.  I do not believe any cruise ship companies are currently operating.  8f the ships are still sailing it is only with very limited crew on them. However, I may be totally wrong and The billionaire yaht club might be on tour, but they sure as hell will not stay in an ASQ, and they definitely never stay for an extended period of time in one place.

Or they can get off in Cambodia like they did last time.

Why can't the time on the cruise ship be treated as the 14-day quarantine?

Presumably everyone is tested before joining a cruise and, once at sea, if no cases emerge that means the passengers are a safer bet than someone who just spent 14-days in a hotel.

Clear thinking with a logical outcome.  There will never be a job offer from the Thai government coming your way anytime soon! ????

these are not princess/carnival cruise ships.  on average 10 foreigners (not passengers) per boat?  assume that includes the crew.  nope, they're counting on billionaires arriving aboard super yachts, doing their quarantine on board their own vessels.  i betcha they get to count sailing time since the last port as part of the quarantine period as well.

It clearly states luxury cruise liners in the first paragraph. It must mean 650 people on each ship.

Poorly worded article by the Nation but comedy gold!

I suggest you read again. Its not for holiday makers on a cruise.

Found a photo of the barge, um I mean Cruise luxury liner, and each room is a converted 50' Storage Container which has bee made into a luxury cabin.  Looks like they will just need to offload and stack the Container on the docks for the quarantine period, return and re-load them for the next leg of the trans-oceanic voyage after they deliver the non passnger carrying containers and cargo....just saying.

Of course they need bathrooms so they have made those as well.  What a world we live in. Welcome to Thailand you world cruisers.

"They are expected to generate 2.1 Billion Baht" ! What is it with Thais and money ? It seems that is ALL they care about, how much they can make out of you ????

I hear that kidnapping tourist might be a crime, but that's the only way they are going to get them!

Cruiseship holiday tourists would be the worst people to be disembarking into any country, thats if there are any cruiseships h aha

CCSA is the most incompetent unrealistic board around.

That means each foreigner will spend 32 million baht ??  How on earth did that arrive at the figure ?

The biggest danger is not from cruise ships but from the hundreds of cargo ships. Here in Perth the only virus carriers we have all come from cargo ships with mainly Filipino crew. Also got a load of infected people from cruise ships a few months ago.

You added an extra place holder, your way would have Thailand estimating they would take in 20,800,000,000 Baht from 650 tourists, not the 2.1 Trillion the OP stated.

There are very few floating Petri Dishes operating at the moment.

These 650 Passengers from 60 vessels sound more like passengers from Fishing Trawlers to me.
