The 'Sweden did absolutely nothing' ascertion is not correct.  Sweden did introduce self distancing (mostly voluntarily),  isolated the most vulnerable (not nearly well enough), closed high schools and universities, banned large gatherings and introduced work at home policies. In addition it closed it's borders and although the lowest of all the Nordic countries, still has plenty of testing going on. 

However, despite all of these measures, Sweden still has a much higher  death toll than in its Nordic neighbours, which opted for tougher lockdown measures. Sweden ranks 17th in deaths per 100,000 population, which although better than the US, is nothing to be bragging about.

Uh, check your facts.  It was Dr. Tony Fauci and the White House Task Force who originally discouraged the wearing of masks.  It took quite a long period of time before it was acknowledged that wearing a mask could be PROTECTIVE.  For a long time it was claimed by Dr. Fauci and the task force that only infected people needed to wear masks.  Let’s not gloss over the history of how long it took before everyone was advised to wear a mask.

South Korea, Taiwan and Japan come to mind.

If US had dealt with outbreak like Japan did, there would be 3000 deaths instead of 200+ thousand. And Japan is more crowded and has larger percentage of seniors.

And let's not gloss over the fact that Trump still doesn't make mask wearing mandatory at his rallies. And  the President has the authority under the National Emergencies Act to take extraordinary measures.

So far as testing goes, the PCR test is relatively useless without timeliness.  The staffing of testing personnel and rapid movement of the test samples and reporting of the results is vital for the test to be useful.  Rapid testing could have been set up but the CDC and    others fumbled and dragged their feet.  Dr. Birx was one on the task force who consistently called for increased testing.  The others - not so much.

OH PS.  The US has 50 states that are run by their own governors and millions of cities controlled by its mayors.  THEY NOT TRUMP set the guidelines for coronavirus response. Cuomo in New York MANDATED that Covid patients be put back into nursing homes.  New York and New Jersey have the most covid deaths but again, I guess you think that Trump was responsible for putting those nursing home patients at risk and causing their deaths. 




 

You've missed the point entirely, it's not about preventing the virus getting in. It's about controlling its spread once it is. That is where Trump failed dismally, eschewing mask discipline, mocking Biden for wearing one, downplaying the seriousness of the problem, sidelining his health professionals, holding rallies which assisted its spread. The icing on the cake was knowingly endangering the staff sworn to protect him while he was infectious, for a cheap publicity stunt.

Leaders are supposed to lead the way out of crises. Trump is more reminiscent of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.

Keep in mind that Sweden is afflicted with a system of socialized medicine so people don't have to fear bankruptcy or huge copayments that discourage them from getting treatment. Poor Swedes!
