The initiative, led by Thailand's Police Chief Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, aims to clear communities of illegal substances, reinforcing the government’s "NO Drugs NO Dealers" policy. This sweeping directive follows a recent policy laid out by Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, with the goal of achieving drug-free communities across the country within a three-month timeframe. The campaign officially launched during a strategic meeting at the Army Club in Bangkok on 17th July 2025. Phased Strategy for Drug Eradication The campaign is structured into three distinct phases spread over three months. The first phase, from 20th July to 1st August, focuses on conducting thorough community inspections. This involves gathering detailed intelligence on drug-related activities and swiftly apprehending dealers for prosecution or rehabilitation. During the second phase, we will intensify enforcement efforts and conduct repeat inspections to make sure we have not overlooked any offenders. The public will be encouraged to participate actively by providing confidential tips, while community leaders, health workers, and religious figures are invited to draft agreements, known as "village constitutions," to prevent drug infiltration. The final phase will concentrate on evaluating the operation’s effectiveness based on community satisfaction with drug management efforts. Areas successfully eliminating drug activities will be heralded as exemplary drug-free zones. Accountability and Recognition Throughout the operation, police performance will be closely tracked. Units that achieve notable success will receive praise and potential rewards, while units that neglect their responsibilities will face disciplinary measures. Picture courtesy of Workpoint News A 40-year-old boatman has been rescued after spending more than four hours adrift in the Andaman Sea, clinging to a plastic container, following the capsizing of his longtail boat in rough waters near Bamboo Island, Krabi. The incident occurred on the afternoon of 20 July when the man, known only as Bang Meed, a resident of Koh Sriboya in Nuea Khlong District, was delivering goods from Krabi town to Phi Phi Island. He departed around noon but encountered heavy seas and strong winds near Bamboo Island, where his vessel was overturned by powerful waves. Concern grew when the Port Security Control Centre in Krabi was informed by the captain of another cargo boat, operated by a local hotel, that contact had been lost with the longtail boat earlier in the afternoon. A search effort was initiated immediately. At approximately 20:30, Mr Seksan a 59-year-old captain of a separate cargo vessel returning from Phi Phi to Krabi, spotted a faint light flickering in the distance. Upon investigation, he discovered Bang Meed floating in the sea, clutching a water container for buoyancy and wearing a headlamp, the very light that ultimately led to his rescue. Mr Seksan brought the exhausted man aboard and safely transported him back to shore. Bang Meed, though weak and fatigued, was conscious. He was promptly taken home by concerned relatives upon arrival. Mr Seksan explained that sea conditions at the time of the incident included waves as high as three metres and strong winds. He added that the boatman was fortunate to survive, and had it not been for the visibility of the headlamp in the darkened sea, he might not have been found in time. The capsized longtail boat and its cargo were lost to the sea. Nonetheless, authorities praised the timely rescue and reminded local seafarers to always carry safety gear, including personal flotation devices and signalling equipment, particularly during the current conditions. Crime Man Arrested for Brutal Killing of Stepfather in Chiang Rai

Police in Mae Chan district, Chiang Rai, have arrested a 25-year-old man for the fatal knife attack on his stepfather, following a swift two-hour manhunt after the incident. The suspect, identified as Mr. Ekachai, was taken into custody and charged with murder. According to reports, the incident occurred around 22:30 on the night of 20 July in Pa Tung subdistrict, Mae Chan. Police received a report of a violent altercation resulting in a fatality. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the body of Mr. Ai Lung Aitang, aged 55, who had suffered a fatal slash wound to the neck. Police investigators, under the command of Pol. Maj. Gen. Manop Senakul, Chiang Rai Provincial Police Commander, and Pol. Col. Kiattisak Jitprasarn, Superintendent of Mae Chan Police Station, launched an immediate investigation. Statements from the victim’s daughter pointed to Mr. Ekachai, her stepbrother and the stepson of the deceased, as the prime suspect. Acting swiftly, police deployed a search team and were able to track the suspect down within two hours. He was apprehended on a rural road in the village of Santi Suk, Village No. 19, Pa Tung subdistrict. A warrant had already been issued against Mr. Ekachai for the offence of intentionally killing another person and he has since been taken back to the scene to re-enact the crime as part of his formal confession. Initial investigations suggest that the suspect was in a disturbed mental state at the time of the attack. Authorities believe his behaviour was the result of long-term substance abuse, which may have contributed to psychiatric instability and loss of self-control.
