For a foreigner to engage a Thai, in a controversial, or in any way confrontational manner, at this time, during a protest, is dumb, thoughtless, inane, insensitive, and potentially explosive. The people feel very passionate about the current state of politics. And justifiably so. I am generally not an advocate of violence, but it does appear this clown got what he deserved. Someone needed to slap him around sooner or later.

 

I think it would be considered fine to show up and show your support. But, as a foreigner, to show resistance to the desire for change and progress here is beyond ignorant and tone deaf.

Foreign tourist, expats, if I remember correctly, a few years ago were warned to stay from such congregations and that applies now too, It is most definitely not a good idea to hang around because sometimes emotions can run high. Having his daughter with him, he should definitely known better. I don't condone the resulting violence but in my opinion, the Russian should have been there anyway.

Maybe that is how things work where you come from (USA?) but resorting to violence against anyone who disagrees with you is way out of order. The attacker should keep off the streets if he cannot control his temper. He has done his cause no good.

Yes, thats what you see in the video, you have no idea what the russian guy did or said prior.

I think its safe to assume, the Russian guy didnt get a headbutt because he was a foreigner, because he was walking past, because he was  peacefully standing there watching, 

I think its also safe to assume the Russian got headbutt because he was heckling challenging and arguing with what was said.

 

What I see in the video is a Russian who looks drunk, belligerent and  passive aggressive. I see some Thais who appear to have been pushed to the level of abuse and violence by something that was said or done to them,

Yes the violence cannot be condoned but I doubt he is the innocent peaceful bystander you portray

Sorry. But as a father all I saw was a dad completely ignoring his 10 year old daughter feeling intimidated, threatened and scared, just so he could feel superior at a protest. Who knows how what he has done will affect her or for how long. And for what?

 

It doesn't excuse the violence. But what ever does? The best way to curb violence is to be smart enough to avoid it. Not expect every one else to live up to your ridiculous standards.

 

Every sign was there that violence was coming and the idiot stayed there and put his kid in danger. Can't excuse that.

Ok , no need for violence , but if he really wanted to make a point with his dumb smily face the whole time first bring your daughter home and then come back because some people say he kept his cool but he was clearly provoking him by keep on smiling in his face . If you stay here long enough you know something like this can happen if you do like that. I pity the young girl that she had to see this and clearly is very upset . You have no idea if the headbutt was due to a disagreement in policy or belief.

Anyone living in a country that is not their own and gets involved in politics of his host country....no matter which side of the dispute is taken...deserves to get much more than head butted.  Anyone who attends a political rally in a foreign country is unnecessarily putting himself in harm's way. It make little difference the merit or lack of merit of the rally....you simply do not belong there.....IDIOT!!!

Its pretty obvious that the Russian guy is somewhat of a d!<k even an a-hole....   you can see that in his behaviour and the fact that he can’t read the ‘atmosphere’ and get his daughter out of there... 

 

But nothing excuses the Thai guy for head-butting the Russian. Any attempt at minimising the incident because one guy is Thai and the other is Foreign is just outright wrong. We can understand why or how it happens, but there is no justification for such actions unless the Russian first physically assaulted someone else.

The way he acts , is dressed and is ushered away by those around him suggests he’s someone who has family in high places or money !

I am not taking anyone's side and have condoned the violence.

I am also not buying into the "innocent bystander" version of events.

 

Something has obviously happend prior to what we see in the video. Something that has made the Thai guy angry enough to be violent

I doubt he left home that evening with the intention of headbutting people.

Wrong - no one deserves to get head-butted simply because they are ‘present’.....  neither does he deserved to get head-butted if he even went as far and voiced an opinion, or simply acted belligerent and smirking as others have noted. 

 

YOUR idea (Expat Tom) that someone deserves to get physically assaulted (much more than head-butted) for simply being present at a rally is outrageous - have you even actually considered what you wrote ????? 

 

 

An hour ago I popped out to the ATM - inadvertently I rounded a corner on my motorcycle and was right next to a Political Rally....  about 200 Thai's in the area (100% Thai) - should one of them taken a disliking to me (a foreigner) for being there ?????

Maybe Boris the 'Russian' has a lot of friends to, the beach mafia type may of struck the wrong Russian and you never insult a Russians child like that woman did giving her the finger, like she did.
