PHUKET: Leading Phuket tourism business figure Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, President of Phuket Tourist Association, has openly critised the government for its lack of support of tourism businesses in Phuket suffering on the island.

In poetic language, Mr Bhummikitti in a post on his Facebook page called for tourism business operators to not rely on government help, but to take action to help themselves.

He also criticised the mobile Cabinet meeting held in Phuket early this month as failing to take the pleas for help from Phuket tourism businesses seriously.

I'm sorry but the way vendors treat tourists in Phuket they don't deserve them.

I hope that this pandemic has been a wakeup call to that far away island that nothing is for certain and never take the cash cow for granted!

One would think that Thailand needs some sort of universal basic income for those affected by the lack of tourism.  Otherwise the prolonged tourism/border closure seems pretty cruel as they are allowing people to potentially starve to death.

Stumping up the kind of cash to keep a five star hotel afloat is not particularly reasonable, but the cost of basic survival for those employed in them is.

I think that people will soon see that the encumbant masters do not care about tourism.

Phuket, Samui, Pattaya, Chiang Mai - we are all on our own.

The Bangkok Bubble though, is OK thank you.

I am beginning to think the government thinks it can live without mass tourism

Good to see from the full article that according to Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, it was the Phuket Tourist Association which organized the visit by ambassadors and embassy representatives to Phuket last weekend.

So, other than Prayut and his Chinese-ar5e-licking bunch, Bhummikitti talks with representatives of Western countries. Also, “A full week passed. The story of the [mobile Cabinet] meeting in Phuket has gone, as well as our hope, as if it has never happened.", he said.

Relieving to see that there are still officials who appreciate us Westerners in the country, and want us to come back.
