Video: Yikes! Mum is just in time to save baby child from huge centipede

A video that was featured on national TV showed the moment that a mother grabbed her little child as a large centipede approached. 

 

The mum was on the phone but noticed the "takhap" advancing rapidly around her baby who was playing innocently on the floor. 

 

 

Thai Rath reported that bites from such creatures can be severe and need hospital treatment. 

 

In this case a man who appeared to be the father managed to trap the creature and no harm was done. 

 

Thaivisa notes that complications from bites of especially large centipedes in Thailand can even cause death.

Questionable reporting you would have to say. It looks like grandma comes in and not so much traps it, as breaks the things spine, which could be considered harmful if you are the centipede.

Having not so long ago suffered from the  "bite" of  one of these creatures I can only have feelings of horror for an infant's uncomprehending agony if it were to be poisoned by one this size !

In cases like this I wonder why someone got enough time left to pick the phone and take a video instead of helping the kid.

This. Unless someone was suspended from the ceiling in the upper corner of the room and was able to hold their camera completely immobile throughout, this certainly looks to be CCTV footage.

I got bitten on the second toe by one of these. Night in hospital, ranked pain as 10. Still have problems (occasional stinging pain, often numb) 4 years later. Consulted a physician in Australia specialising in strange things, MRI, nothing.

My 7 month old son sleeps in the living room in a pen. If anything moves in the house - it dies!

Paracetamol to start with, then when the midnight nurse came around the second time, I told her and she gave me a shot, it worked but I dont know what it was.

Yeah they are not pleasant. Mother in law spent 2 days in hospital after being bitten by a big one and suffering a bad reaction.

insects dont have spine

Jesus they do like a repeat loop with a bit of zoom in and red pointy arrows with loads of Oohwee' noises .. 

I'd have set that clockwork cat on it ..

I was bitten by one of these in 2018 and couldn't walk for 3 weeks, very painful, needed morphine injections, we still get them around the house but the dogs keep them at bay.

You are all heart, not really inappropriate for a child to be playing on the floor near the mother, and she did spot the danger, so thankfully was keeping an eye out

And not so good quality at that, one bite from that thing would have nigh on killed the kid, i would think!

Looks more like a harmless millipede to me. But then panic is a good option.  I found an Elephant Hawk moth caterpillar and my wife said it was venomous.

No, millipedes move much slower, this indeed appears to be a dangerous centipede.
