Popular Post webfact
New 100 banknotes caused confusion among Thais A new set of Thai banknotes, to commemorate the anniversary of His Majesty the King’s coronation, have been released. The 1,000 baht note is larger than its original size and is printed in a portrait orientation in 3D magnetic ink, to prevent counterfeiting. The 100 baht note is printed using the same technology. Both new notes feature illustrations of the coronation ceremony were officially released yesterday (December 12th) by the Bank of Thailand. Social media users, however, have been discussing the new banknotes, claiming that the new 100 looks similar to the old 1,000. The new banknotes can be used like other banknotes in current circulation and can be exchanged through commercial banks, the Government Savings Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Government Housing Bank, and the Islamic Bank of Thailand. The new 100 baht banknotes can also be withdrawn from ATM machines. ezzra
One can easily see why there is a confusion between the 100 and the 1000 baht notes, Thailand is a prolific coins and banknotes issuer with dozens of new coins, mostly comparatives, comes into the market every year, usually it is easy to distinguish one denomination from the others, not sure what happen this time... Popular Post SlackJawChef
Think I'm gonna need a new wallet, to try and get those new thousands in,I hope they're just for commemorative collectors and not actually to go into circulation. How are ATMs going to dispense those? 13 4

Popular Post LALes
I can see where the confusion lies. The new hundred Baht note is more gold and brown than red. It looks more like a thousand Baht note.

Susco
The last batch of notes released, with the new monarch, was already pretty confusing in the dark because of the colors. I guess this one will even be a step up from that.

Clearly the 1,000 notes will not be dispensable without some major technical upgrades. So I don't think it will be a case of larger wallets. Rather it will be fatter ones. They can't possibly be dumping the standard sized 1,000 note. Imagine pulling 30,000 THB out in 100s! Stevemercer
I wish Thailand would rationalise the currency. Replace 20 Baht notes with coins, and get rid of satang coins and 1 baht coins

Popular Post CharlieH
I can see some unscrupolous people claiming to have only received a 100 and not a 1000. Need to be very vigilant at the ATM and hope whoever loaded it, got it right.???? They could of put 100 in 1000 or vice versa, be a nice windfall if they put 1000 in the 100 slot ???? 2

Bangkok Barry
Is there anything that Thailand doesn't mess up? Why change the colour to match another? Maybe it's the first step to making all the banknotes look the same, like the US$.
orchidfan
As I've commented a while ago, WHY is the note's denomination no longer printed at the TOP of the note.....as it used to be and IS on any other country's bank notes that I have seen/used. When you look in your wallet it's the TOP of the note you see....not the bottom or the colour! Please correct me if I'm wrong. 2
Kaopad999
So hopefully when i hand the new 100 THB bank note to the seven eleven cashier, the will mistake it for a 1,000 THB bank note ????

With millions of people in debt…millions of people unemployed….and millions of people wondering how they’re going to support their families…the government decides to roll out a fancy set of larger, more colorful, and more impressive banknotes. It’s no wonder these banknotes confuse people..…..possibly they’re only intended for use by Hi-So spenders. The old, worn, and ordinary banknotes are better left to the peasants. I thought 20,000B was the maximum. But the 1000 Baht being bigger I'll head I new wallet which could leave many shops unable to sell the standard one of the moment.
