did they? is "chinese new year" as an official holiday being added to the calendar?

they approved 4 (temporary? this year only?) holidays, one of which just happened to also be chinese new year.  there was no mention (bing translate) of chinese new year in the linked article.

given the number of days in the calendar, minus weekends, minus current holidays, odds are one of the holidays will align with some other.......oh look!  feb 12 is the start of carnival in rio!  there goes thailand selling out to the brazillions.

Culture Minister Ittipol Khunpluem

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved 24 public holidays for 2021, which will include additional days off added to the calendar, Culture Minister Ittipol Khunpluem said.

The extra days off include Chinese New Year on February 12. This is the first time that Chinese New Year has been recognised as a public holiday.

Also included is an additional day off for Songkran on April 12, July 27 as a substitution for Buddhist Lent day on July 25, and Prince Mahidol day on September 24.

Meanwhile, the substitution for King Chulalongkorn Memorial Day has been shifted to October 22 from October 25 to allow for a long weekend.

The Cabinet also approved regional public holidays such as May 10 for Bun Bang Fai (Rocket Festival) day in the Northeast.

The minister said these extra holidays will give people a chance to spend and help boost the subdued economy.

Government deputy spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said these special holidays will only be applicable to 2021.

My staff will not be getting any additional days off.

With public holidays, annual leave, sick leave and personal leave it is a surprise if they are even at work at all!

I was thinking maybe two calendars will be issued for next year, a working calendar and a holiday calendar.
