Tommy doc dies

Featured Replies

one of the true charecters of UK football.. brought flair and passion via a relegation bac to a very 'down in the tooth' man utd, had a major hand in putting together a  great Scottish national team..and put together the start of a Chelsea team that went on and challenged the best att. TRULY shocking that the footballing world had no place for a man of his calibre and expierence.

Former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty dies aged 92

Tommy Docherty spent five years as manager of Man Utd and is fondly remembered for winning promotion for the club.

Former Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty has died at the age of 92 after a long illness.

Docherty, born in Glasgow, made more than 400 appearances as a player for Celtic, Preston North End, Arsenal and Chelsea, but it was as a manager that he really made his name.

I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times when he was at United, I think the sacked the wrong person should have sacked the physio

'If I'd known I was going to live this long I'd have looked after myself better,' he would say.

At least Manchester United paid their respect to "The Doc"

I know that some of the ex players who played under him had problems with his lying .

Denis Law ,George Graham , Paddy Crerand , Willie Morgan to name a few.

Apparently he was a " behind your back manager ".

and was not as well respected as people thought.

Willie Morgan said about the Doc's autobiography: "It's the sort of book that once you've put it down you can't pick it up again".

Especially that next up was... Dave 'boring ' sexton...

I thought he had died years ago.

While Ted Drake dragged a stale Chelsea team to greater heights by introducing Chelsea youth players, Greavsie being one of them, the Doc went even further and brought a brand of exhilirating, exciting football with more young players and astute signings. Pity the Chelsea board weren't on the same wavelength. Tommy Doc will always be revered as an exceptional manager for Chelsea.
