I have to travel to hospital in Bangkok on Thursday 7th Jan. for an urgeny ct scan i have been tested neg. for virus.

Will i have a problem?I am travelling by private car.

Unlikely you will encounter any issues. Best to carry a copy of the appointment confirmation letter to present to any officials in case you get stopped. And carry neg Covid test result too as a back-up. We all know how Thai officialdom likes paperwork. Maybe take 3 copies of each and signed and with your phone number just to be safe.

Inter-provincial traffic is being (semi) controlled.

As per the news article:
"People who live in the 28 provinces (listed below) now deemed ‘red zones’ are advised to not travel to other provinces unless absolutely necessary. Anyone travelling across provinces must show proof of why they are travelling." (My bolding.)

Make sure you take your passport and medical appointment paperwork with you.

Beware as well that some provinces (like Buriram and Sa Kaeo) apparently expect anyone from certain other provinces (like Chon Buri and Rayong for example) to self-quarantine for 14 days.

It shouldn't be a problem though if you are just going there for the appointment and coming back right away.

If you are going for a CT scan, they must know they are looking for something.  

 

Maybe best you go to Bangkok now, while you know you can still get there, so you can definitely make your appointment.

Yeah. The only thing they can do is activate those checkpoints they have scattered around and look at license plates. Most of the checkpoints are in the villages or on secondary highways and nowhere close to the "borders" between provinces.
You can go from Rayong through Chon Buri, Chachoengsao, Prachinburi and into Nakhon Ratchasima province on the 331/304 and there is just one checkpoint (at the top of the hill in Wang Nam Kiao) on the way and it's rarely manned.

There is one on the 359 Highway between Prachinburi and Sa Kaeo. Mostly they are looking for illegals coming from Cambodia. Usually has one lowly soldier in a booth waving at traffic to keep moving unless they are looking for something specific.

Almost every small village in Sa Kaeo between Aranyaprathet and Buriram has a "checkpoint" in the middle of the road that could be manned (depending on need, weather, time of day, etc). 

But of course, for the people who live in the area (or were raised there and are trying to get back) they know how to get around all those. 

For the rest of us, just use Google Maps and you are sure to end up going around them as it routes you on cow trails running through rice fields. 
(Just pick the smallest roads that seem to be the most direct route and you are sure to end up on some dirt track that even the "iron buffaloes" fear to travel even when it's dry.)

Yes, it would meet that category.  

 

However, things can change very fast now. 

 

Say the government announces check points to start Thursday morning at 12.01am, and I mean seriously enforced check points.  Can you imagine the traffic backed up at the check point the next morning?  The OP may miss his appointment.

 

I guess it depends on how important the CT Scan is, and the results from it.  I would have left while I knew I could have got out.  What's 2 nights in a mid priced Bangkok hotel, compared to missing the appointment and going to the back of the queue?

Correct, but they may also order the cancelation of elective surgeries, or minor medical procedures, as we have seen on other countries.  

 

So, the appointment is cancelled, but not much the OP can do about that.

It's essential travel, i suggest checkpoints would be no issue.

Thailand will just copy what has worked in other countries, so it is not a void point.

 

Other countries stopped elective surgeries, and other minor procedures.  What makes you think Thailand will not copy this?

 

Just one article of many.  In this case, they needed the surgeries to be converted to ICU wards, but in many countries, elective surgery was cancelled to try to stop possibly infected people entering the hospital environmnent.

You've also selected government hospital, the private hospitals here in Thailand are well run business's, they're out to make money unlike government hospitals.

There very well could be a lot of traffic at check points, if they quarantine provinces.  The traffic simply banks up, as police / army question commuters, check ID / passports / visas,  verify bona fides etc.  Of course, this is if it is seriously implemented and enforced.

 

You really need to look past the traffic you see driving around on suburban roads and cast a thought to highways, and provincial quarantining.

There are many many similar articles from all over the UK.

 

You really need to remember where you are, Harry.  You are in Thailand, a 3rd World Country, with a military dictatorship masquerading as a democracy, and you are not a citizen.

 

Your money is only as good as everyone else's, and once the beds are taken by other paying patients, there will be no bed for you.  This is the reality.

Lock downs and quarantining have flattened the curve, eventually allowing economies to open back up, albeit, in a covid normal way.

 

This worked in many places around the world, and we saw this in Pattaya, some months go.

 

It's incompetence, and complacency, that has allowed second and third waves to start.  The subsequent waves should have been jumped on immediately, whilst they were clusters, and not allowed to become outbreaks.

I live in a province on one of the main routes north that the majority of Thai's use for going home during holidays etc so i have a pretty good idea of what's going on thanks very much.

 

But if i need an update on Soi Bukhoaw ( your chosen specialist subject ) i'll be sure to let you know.

If you are in a province outside of Chonburi, it will be a tent hospital bed for you, but if you pull out your visa card, you may get upgraded to a government hospital.   ????
