Covid-19 cases likely to rise sharply due to holiday travel: Chula lecturer

The number of Covid-19 cases in Thailand is expected to rise sharply at the end of this week due to people travelling during the New Year holidays, Chulalongkorn University Faculty of Medicine lecturer Thira Woratanarat said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

 

He pointed out that everyone could be at risk of contacting Covid-19 and not just those who visited risky areas.

 

Thira advised people who travelled during the holidays to see a doctor immediately if they experience any symptoms related to the dreaded virus.

 

He said it would be hard for the government to curb the spread of Covid-19 as soon as possible because it was not strict enough in restricting people from travelling, while there are many daily activities which would cause the virus to spread.

 

“For a short-term solution, it would be great if people could report their symptoms via a smartphone application as this would help the government monitor the situation and test people in risky areas,” he suggested.

 

Thira also advised people who have to go outside to strictly abide by rules and measures to prevent Covid-19 from spreading further.

No s...t Sherlock, really.  Who let the country travel about as this thing started to spread.  Wait, it will just slowly dissapear in about 14 more days, no more cases to be seen, just like the 900 cases from Samut Sakhon yesterday that have not been added into the numbers yet.   Stunning deduction on the good lecturers part......

Traveling from Mai Hong Son back to BKK three days ago we saw numerous Thai people without masks on.

I am sure the "dirty farangs" will come to be blamed at some point, even though very few have been admitted from outside.

You been near foreigner? No. Been to pub, bar, club? No. Been crowded market. No. But did go to friends condo for food with 12 of us. You have a fever, take some paracetamol and go home and rest.??? Common sense talking as I think some Thai people and farang think that if they do not do any of the above they won't be exposed to covid. Anyone can be exposed to it and the more people you spend time with the greater the risk.

They were probably hoping those extra 900 would just go unnoticed. I reckon if you had to make a bet yesterday whether or not they would report the 900 today then the odds would have been high for not reporting.

I've been pointing this out for weeks now to whoever would listen. I think most sensible people realised New Year travel danger, unfortunately, the government aren't sensible people. Pattaya will be one of the hardest hit due to the large number of Thai holidaymakers that descend on the place every year.

Nah... you have to actively test people to find these rocketing numbers.

 

A little strange that the numbers have been dwindling over the last few days considering we were seeing almost 800 a day only a few days ago.

Now it's magically down to only 300 or so.
