I guess the libs are rethinking their "defund the police" stance after this.

Your comment obviously shows that you do not understand the 'defund the police' call. 'Defund' is a complicated word and if taken literally would lead you to your statement.

Hint: It doesn't mean what you think it means.

Nope.  It's going strong.  And after what just happened, with cops taking selfies with the invaders, putting on MAGA hats, showing them where to go once inside, and letting them leave without being arrested, it's time for reform.

Can you imagine the response if that crowd was black?

Police reform is desperately needed.  And only far right nuts interpret "defund" the police to mean taking away 100% of funds.  That's not the case.

It's one of the dog whistles for the alt right crowd.  Spewed constantly on the right wing media sites.  Sad some fall for the lies and propaganda.

You obviously listen to the Fox/Newsmax/OAN lies. "Defund the police" means to allocate the funds to organizations that would then handle cases the police shouldn't. It was an unfortunate term, has been explained innumerable times as I've just explained to you. Will you listen and learn?

If you have to explain that a slogan doesn't mean what it seems to mean, then it's a terrible slogan. It should be retired.

Agreed but it has been explained numerous times on this forum and in the media (obviously not all media) so there really should be no excuse for not knowing what it really means.

I have to agree.  The intent--shifting money to services dealing with mental health, addiction, homelessness, etc.--was good, but it was a terrible choice for a slogan.

Well it was a stupid phrase to use.

Yes I think people using it understood what it meant was to reallocate funds to mental health etc.

But really, anyone with half a brain cell could have predicted how that phrase would be used against them!

Pretty sure that phrase alone, cost quite a few Democrats their seat last November.

Bumper sticker one liners are not always the smartest way to make a point!

Not the smartest way to make a point when those against it are so dumb.

Personally I believe the phrase 'defund the police' is no longer  misunderstood as it has been clarified so many times'; just members and others leveraging the term for political propaganda / trolling. Naturally there might be instances with some of utter stupidity.

The problem with that is we live in age where it really doesn't matter what reality is, it's more what you 'believe' reality to be.

So you and I can understand what the phrase means, but if someone on the other side 'believes' it to mean take all money away from the police, thats reality for them.

And this isn't about intelligence, Colbert had it right when he said; It's about Truthyism, it's what you feel to be true!

Now this wasn't a phrase cooked up on the street, some political strategist in Manhatten must have thought it was a really good one liner, without thought to how it could be used against the underlying ideals

Thanks. Never heard of Colbert and 'truthyism', so looked it up - may be of interest to some others...

Yes, really bad slogan.  Biden doesn't want anything to do with it.

Consider all the security when they have big events such as the State of the Union, or the inauguration. They have aircraft above and a perimeter set up.

For this they had virtually nothing. They knew they had thousands of angry people who felt the election had been stolen from their candidate, yet there was virtually no security.

The Capitol Police answer to congress. This entire mess has Pelosi's and McConnell's fingerprints all over it.

Six hours of paralysis: Inside Trump’s failure to act after a mob stormed the Capitol

Hiding from the rioters in a secret location away from the Capitol, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) appealed to Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser. Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) phoned Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter.

And Kellyanne Conway, a longtime Trump confidante and former White House senior adviser, called an aide who she knew was standing at the president’s side.

But as senators and House members trapped inside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday begged for immediate help during the siege, they struggled to get through to the president, who — safely ensconced in the West Wing — was too busy watching fiery TV images of the crisis unfolding around them to act or even bother to hear their pleas.

Which is, I guess, why Trump is facing his second impeachment.

And of course your own efforts to avoid dealing with the reality in front of you.

Damning stuff. But we knew he was unfit for the presidency already.

it seems like a few congress men and congress women feared for their life, and this is the main justification for the impeachment

it seems like they couldn't care less about the rest,

More than a few. It was terrorism. If inciting a terrorist attack on your own government in order to overturn the results of an election isn't grounds for impeachment, then nothing is.

BS.  At the urging of the President, a violent mob stormed the Capitol building while Congress was in session, with the intent of preventing the certification of the electoral college vote.

Anyone who cares about Constitutional government in the US wants Trump impeached for this.  Only those who are happy with an above the law autocrat replacing our current government think the attack was no big deal.

Interesting that you think Trump being banned on Twitter (an unimportant business not covered by the First Amendment) is horrible but a direct attack on our government by a mob called up by the President is no big deal.

Pelosi's fingerprints?  Wow...totally delusional.  You really need a better source for your news.

Right now, the blame is being pointed at Trump.  Thus, his impeachment.

Clueless as usual.  The capitol building was attacked and broken into.  That's a huge violation of federal law.  Sad you don't care about law and order.  Not the mention the deaths of 6 people now.

You have previously been called out for your lack of knowledge about what 'defund the police' means (and no apology when pointed out to you) and you are going to get called out again regarding your ignorance about the Capitol Police.

A quick Google search immediately shows that the Capitol Police DO NOT answer to Congress but rather to the Capitol Police board with OVERSIGHT by Congress. Oversight does not have operational responsibility which is what was needed on the day. To think that Pelosi and McConnell had anything to do with actions on the day (or lack of) are delusional and again the longings of desperate people trying to pin the blame on anyone other than the one that should be blamed, namely Trump.

If you are going to argue any point on this forum please get yourself better informed.

Actually if any member of Congress couldn 't care less about the rest, it's those numerous Republicans who refuse to wear masks. They're heroes fighting for the right to infect others.
