Thai minister proposes 'golf quarantine' to boost tourism

Logic does not seem to be a strong skill with Thais. What percentage of tourists are golfers? And what percentage of tourists who play golf want to play here?

The golf courses here are reasonably good, but they are not in the same class as Scotland, Ireland, the USA and the Melbourne and Peninsula sand belt. For what one gets, they are quite expensive.

IMO they would do better targeting sex tourism, but they are not allowed to say that.

As long as they don't go to Pattaya, there is no sex tourism there. :cheesy:

Thai minister proposes 'golf quarantine'

How about starting the mass vaccination? Making it easier fo people which are vaccinated to enter the country without quarantine?

These plans which few people have spent weeks to come up with will not do the job.

Thailand needs 20 to 30 miljon visitors and you need to think in that level. 100 here and there will not help anyone but specific persons.

Do your job, Start mass vaccination and start opening the borders for anyone that is vaccinated.  After all Europe has already vaccinated large number of its citizens. Unlike the Thai government.

well, its a funny idea and obviously its not gonna recover the economy. yet....still gratefull to be in Thailand with regards to the covid crisis. I just read in London they started storing dead bodies in tents bc the morgues are full. And the usa has a daily death rate of 4000 ppl.

so well, Thaioand still wins big time and deserves praise and support  and not ridicule and cheap jokes.

Listen to yourself...... !  Don't forget the Tyranosaurus Rex ravaging London as well.....    Believing that garbage is a bit like believing the figures coming out of TAT.........     Storing bodies in tents ?     Nah, there's a place called Morecambe where we let them walk around then congregate at bus stops.......

Bonkers !    But at least they're consistent......  Why not just do what Malaysia does ?  Test people arriving at the airport, quarantine, find out the results and go from there....... Easy.......   The problem in Thailand is the greedy little fingers trying to work out the next graft of cash and delaying any action doing so......Richest this ,richest that, blah blah blah........ Just get your hands in YOUR pockets and copy Malaysia, ( Should be easy for Thailand to do) and get the show going again, Oh, and put a mama san in charge and the place will rock .......  Golf ?  How about tiddly winks or stamp collecting.... ?

Bravo. It’s a good idea, but hey it’s so much easier to put the boot in.

Isn't Chonburi locked down? By the looks of the links the club is missing all its foreign workers who cut the grass too.

Another bright spark in charge of ToT, they should move him to the Ministry of Silly Trousers with the rest of the golf addicts.

Sorry not read all posts yet; Will this only be available in the military golf clubs? and will the orange faced one apply ?

The problem is that a vaccine still make you contagious to others

Sounds like a good idea to me probably will add about 3000 baht a day to your stay. For green fees and caddy

I read many of the replies and though many of them are funny, they don't make much sense,

Golf is a sport that if properly done could accomplish both social distancing, and give those who participate a chance to get outside for long periods of time , do something they enjoy and maybe shave a couple of strokes off of their game. IMO is sounds like a good idea, ot at the very least a viable one worth considering.

Oh boy, I can't wait to see the projected number of tourists for this one! I'm sure people from every country are chomping at the bit to get on a plane and come here just to play golf for 14 days at the same course and stay the entire time at the same hotel, unbelievable...

You have to give 'em that much: Those muppets must have balls to come up with nonsense like that...

So much time... so many holes to fill...

Why was this "proposal" news story posted 7 hours ago given ...

And allegedly:

Published in the Royal Thai Government Gazette on 7 December, 2020, with immediate effect, the EOC announced that foreign golfers with advance arrangements for golfing in Thailand will be allowed to undergo a golf quarantine as an alternative local state quarantine option.

Not many. but I tell you, if I can afford it, i rather be playing golf than sitting in a hotel room. One of the reasons I am not coming back is because I don't think me and the wife can do 14 days in a hotel room, but at a golf result where I can go out and hit some balls, if we can afford it it .....

I can’t see this improving tourism. But its a good idea for those who would be undergoing a two week quarantine anyway.

I am returning to Thailand in March and would be interested in a Golf Quarantine even though I haven’t played golf for 4 years or so !!!... if competitively priced its a much better option than sitting in a room all day.

That said: the best option would be for those who have been vaccinate to enter Thailand without the need for quarantine full stop.

I paid quarantine along with many that will follow. Only silly people believe they can travel because they say. I don't need quarantine mad people. No tourists would enter the AU without quarantine even during early stages of vaccine. It's the poor with no money that complain about paying a hotel. The Chinese don't care they don't look at time

Thai gov’t can do whatever they want. Is it a bad idea to have golf tourism? Probably not. Is it going to make the slightest dent in solving the disastrous tourism economy? No way.

Rubbish talk. People are now accepting and most just happy they can enter again. It weeds out the cheap charlie's. Some stay 2 3 months some 1 month. I don't even listen to bitter people. You will not enter my country without quarantine and you will pick where you stay. Good luck

Rubbish? Not at all. Please tell me how a golf quarantine, by itself is going to save the near 1.9 trillion baht international tourism revenue shortfall. You clearly didn’t get my point and I’d also submit it’s you who are bitter, not me. BTW, I already live here, dude.

Thailand has reopened where many haven't pay and go. Or stay home. And get a hobby at home.

Bother somebody else. Pay or don't complain. You simply can't comprehend the situation. Worry about tourism in your own country. Thais don't really care what you say anyway.

You’re funny. A bit overly sensitive, but funny.
