Muang Krabi police and forensic teams went to the first floor of a hotel on Chao Fa road in Pak Nam sub-district of Muang Krabi yesterday after staff found a long term guest dead in his room.

He was an American man called James T. aged 53.

He had been dead for about three days. He was naked and found face down in a state of decomposition.

Staff said that he came alone to rent a room during the pandemic last year and sometimes a Malaysian girlfriend would visit him. He got stranded in Thailand due to the pandemic. They noted he was a beer drinker.

He was last seen several days ago on a computer in the lobby of the hotel.

His rent was due so they went to his room and noticed a foul smell. The maid's key was used to open the door.

The body has been sent to Surat Thani Hospital for autopsy.

Natural causes are suspected as there was no evidence of foul play in the room.
