(Photo by Mladen ANTONOV / AFP) The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is considering plans to attract foreign tourists back to Thailand, and may allow vaccinated foreigners to enter the country without the need for 14 days in quarantine on arrival. The Tourism and Sports Minister, Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, revealed today that the aim is to have 5-10 million foreign tourists enter Thailand this year, starting after the Songkran festival in mid-April, or in May at the latest. He added that, reaching the 10 million mark will depend on restrictions in countries like Malaysia, China and India. The minister said that he will ask the prime minister for 5 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate people working in the tourism sector, with the main focus on Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi, Surat Thani and Songkhla, to build confidence amongst travellers. Popular Post RichardColeman
Finally, sense at last - though without supporting airlines it might not work and there's no declaration of what else the 'vaccinated' tourists would have to have to get in. Thailand tends to announce a great idea and then add demands that make not worth the effort. Here's hoping

Popular Post bluebluewater
People and governments are hanging a LOT of hope on those vaccines and, although I'm sure they are going to be a help, I'm not at all convinced that level of hope will be realized. TBS I hope I can get my jabs soon but even after that I am going to remain very cautious.

What? Are they classified as essential front line workers now. How does that help when the tourists then decide to visit around without a Covid minder, or tether, and contact a local who may or may not be infected. Back to the Drawing board I think folks. Another day another plan in the round file. 12

It would just take one of those and game is over. Given the groundwork the powers that be have done over the last year, implanting the notion that the outer world is festering diseased mass, that is a non starter. Nothing is going to happen until Thailand gets its own population vaccinated, and as we now know, that will be a lengthy process. What's more you can't even talk about why that is so. Yeesh, it's to be another long year. 1
Popular Post Crusader
Only a proposal, but there have been so many already. Does anyone know the possible issues after vaccination? Are there any studies of people who have already been vaccinated? Is it still possible to be a carrier and pass the virus on after vaccination? Common sense does not obviously prevail. No one in until the virus is eradicated and solid proof that the vaccines work properly (and that takes time). Bit of a bummer too for those of us here who wish to travel abroad...but, so be it. 4
Popular Post cardinalblue
Explain me your logic...thailand is not going to let vaccinated foreigners in until they become vaccinated...what you are saying is they don’t trust the vaccine so why does it matter then when their population becomes vaccinated? and we all know the roll out in thailand will be a mess once they even obtain the vaccine... 5
cormanr7
Maybe yous should read this first: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/survey-finds-thais-want-tourists-back-but-with-quarantine. Apart from that we have heard endless proposals/suggestions from the TAT and we have all seen how that has ended. They are not the decision makers.

I think this is related to the problem, that vaccinated foreigner still can carry the virus and spread it. So it makes no sense before the local population is not vaccinated. Till now it's only proven, that the vaccine will help for an outbreak, but still would infect locals. Example: 1 vaccinated foreigner which is COVID positive will enter Thailand. (As he is vaccinated) he not will wear a mask at all and therefore can even infect more locals! 1 1

Regardless whether TAT will or won’t allow isn’t even CONSIDERING the possibility somewhat dangerous? we already know that certain vaccines only have fifty something percent effectiveness. Potentially then fifty percent vaccinated people are still carriers? stranger danger. ! 1

The reason it is recommended one continue to wear mask, use of alcohol, social distant.

It's actually a good result as it shows a significant drop in infections even after 2 weeks when compared to the national prevalence at the time of the study.

And of course as a bonus their Vacations will be so much cheaper, and without any potential risk of having to Quarantine upon their return.
