Pattaya hotels face uphill climb ahead of Chinese New Year

Stigma of the outbreak has deterred travellers from visiting Pattaya although infections are down

Although Covid-19 cases have steadily declined since mid-January in Chonburi province, Pattaya’s hotels still face a tough battle to claw back visitors ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.

The province’s hospitality industry took a beating after being declared a maximum-control zone at the beginning of the year amid Thailand’s second Covid-19 outbreak.

Despite being downgraded from a Red Zone to an Orange Zone as of February 1, with pubs and entertainment facilities being allowed to reopen and serve alcohol until 23.00, the stigma of the outbreak and media reports about domestic travel restrictions continue to deter many would-be travellers to Pattaya.

Rename the celebration as Covid New Year; Chinese New Year is racist.

Chinese New year. Welcome to the 3rd wave.

I wondered why they dropped all restrictions and red zones quickly. Obviously to cater for the Chinese New year.

A lot of Bangkokians will be wondering if it's better to stay in Bangkok or go to Pattaya for an upcoming long weekend?

Or will Pattaya want them to come a bring an unwanted gift.

You just know Pattaya wants them.....

The hotels don't seem to be trying very hard.

Even checking this week before CNY the rates have not been reduced much.  In fact, several seem even higher  then normal.

The future bullet trains will bring even more down.  Enjoy the peace and quiet.

They need a mama cup promo to get em..or a coupon for group discount at the hotel shrimp buffet! gift baskets of durian, fish sticks-seaweed and snail white?  ????

Really don't want an influx of party animals celebrating Wufluland New Year. Road blocks and  lockdown please. Don't believe the upgrade from one shade of red to a slightly less red zone

Are the ASQ regulations still in effect? I've seen nothing to the contrary.  If so, any tourists from China here for the new year would already be halfway through their 14 day porridge? Hopefully this will put off a few that would otherwise have come to Pattaya. Even so, the number of Thai Chinese living here and the influx of domestic visitors having a ball for a few days will likely see a surge in infections and the effect of a lot of the sensible preventive measures undone.  How do you stop a couple of people from Samut Sakhon coming here, possibly unwittingly carrying a nasty condition?

The governor of one Bangkok district https://thepattayanews.com/2021/02/04/bangkok-governor-announces-cancellation-of-chinese-new-year-festival-in-yaowarat-due-to-covid-19-global-pandemic/ has already put into effect a complete ban on CYN celebrations. Good on him for making an unpopular decision.
