Murder fugitive husband arrested in Phang Nga

PHUKET: Police today arrested the missing husband of Sopa Thanimkarn, 39, whose body was found dumped beside the road south of Patong last Friday (Jan 29).

 

Officers arrested Suchart Gunpai, 45, at a room of The Peace Resort in Tambon Lam Kaen, in Phang Nga, north of Phuket, at about 8:30am today (Feb 3), Phuket Provincial Police Chief Maj Gen Pornsak Nuannoo confirmed this afternoon.

 

Suchart was found with 113 pills of methamphetamine (ya bah) and 18 grams of crystal meth (ya ice), he added.

I sometimes wonder how parading alledged perpetrators before cameras affects to mind of those who adjudicate at trials of the accused, they have notbeen convicted, but are paraded like "freak" exhibits in circuses of old

He’s already admitted to murdering his wife.  This is what’s wrong with the world.  He’ll get a trial, get a reduced sentence, then be back on the streets soon to kill again.  Anyone who  commits first degree murder no longer deserves to live, period.

Several studies in countries with capital crimes, have proven the death sentence is not a detterent to the crimes, so if it is crime reducion being sought, ineffective, if it is revenge, then I think this reflects poorly on society. Personally I fail to see how state sanctioned murder is differnt from other murder.

It’s not a deterrent because it has never has been used in the correct way.  If someone is found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, or as in this case, someone ADMITS to murdering another human being, then they should be executed, and quickly.  None of this bull <deleted> of sitting on death row for 20 years wasting tax payers dollars. And the reason state sanctioned executions are different than murder, is because these individuals decided to take another life, not in self defense, not by accident, but cold blooded murder. As I stated earlier, if you murder someone in cold blood, then your life should be forfeit, period. I wonder what your take would be if this piece of garbage had murdered someone in your family?

And the people that admit to murder for a variety if reasons but are innocent?

I still remain opposed to capital punishment. Your hypothosis regarding swift execution is flawed , as many peer reviewed studies of criminals have shown that when committing crimes, they do not think of consequences or even the fact they may be caught. Even the two Australians who were executed in Indonesia for drug trafficiing, stated they knew the penalty if caught but believed they would get away with it. Same from those facing life in prison for their part of the same syndicate.

People who commit murder are generally emotionally charged at the time, and their logical brain is not functioning due to flooding of naturally induced chemicals in the brain, blocking logical functioning.

There are  other parts of your response with which I disagree. With all due respect.

There are also several persons in recent years , who have been convicted of murder, only to have their innocence proven by new evidence, not only in the USA, but several other countries as well. Some of these person had confessions used which were also made under duress.

There are many cases of people confessing to crimes they did not commit, murder included. The reasons for this may be mental capacity, age and police pressure. If you execute based upon confession alone then that is no guarantee they actually did it.

I am not against capital punishment, or for it, as I shift from one side of the fence to the other, I just feel a confession can be just as unreliable as other evidence.

In relation to your other comment, personally if anyone murdered someone close to me I would rather they stay in prison for life and stew than a quick execution.
