Yamaha WR155 vs Dtracker 250 Supermoto

Featured Replies

I have been thinking about getting a Dtracker 250. But I saw a supermoto version of the Yamaha WR155 and think it looks like a cool light bike for commuting through Bangkok and  a little bit of light trail fun. It's obviously a bit less powerful than the 250 Dtracker, but I'm just looking for fun and don't care about going over 120kn/hour. Anyone got any expereince of the 2 bikes?

Are you riding from Bangkok to the light trails? Choice of bike depends on the type of riding?

Mainly just around Bangkok.

I'm thinking the Yamaha will be OK for traffic. I used to drink with a guy who ran a KLX150 he never complained.

Motard wheels/tires/etc would be needed for the KLX and WR. All 3 bikes would be great.  CRF,s have fallen in value , going cheaply now , if the extra weight isnt a problem.

I see that Kawasaki Thailand site no longer lists the D-Tracker 250, only the 150.  And the KLX 150s are gone, replaced by the KLX230.

I would always suggest to get the bigger displacement. We always say we don't care about it but a little bit more of power is always more fun, especially in the trails. My 2 cents.

The WR155 is surprisingly heavy. 134kg compared to about 138kg for the KLX250 so personally I don't think the weight saving is worth the loss of power.

For comparison the KLX150 D Tracker is about 113kg so the WR is a bit of a pig in comparison. I have a KLX140G which is the offroad version of the KLX150 and it's a great bike, the 140G is only 99kg.

From memory the KLX150 is cheaper than the WR as well, maybe 87,000 compared to 105,000 if memory serves me correctly.

I have owned 2 Dtrackers. Both got 300cc kits and ECU. D TRACKER has the worst suspension. It's for 60kg rider. Rubbish..

Best buy a CRF the 150 you rob yourself of a long trip

A 250cc is definitely the better choice. Displacement always rules.
