That is like traveling from London to Middlesbrough for a night out.....why would anyone do that?

The restrictions on entering/leaving Chon Buri were lifted some time ago. 

Don't know about leaving/entering Bangkok, but we rode to Suvarnabhumi (from Pattaya, before heading north) on 3 Feb and there wasn't any checkpoints/covid control along the way. (Probably none on the expressways either.)

those restrictions should have lifted on 1st,

it should be as easy as to take a minivan from ekkamai

station and jump off at pattaya tai intersection and take a baht bus down to WS where it used to be escorts that can advice on suitable hotel
