BANGKOK (NNT) - In light of the COVID-19 triggered New Normal, the Department of Tourism has unveiled the Chang Choo Wong Rerng Ra or Jubilant Elephant with Raised Trun, a mark to indicate tourism businesses that meet Ministry of Tourism and Sports standards.

Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Anan Wongbenjarat explained today that the elephant was chosen for the mark as it is the national animal of Thailand with its raised trunk a sign of welcome and a stand in for the Thai smile. Detailed designs on the elephant highlight Thailand’s tradition of carefully made art, and by extension all the nation’s traditions and cultures, which are derived from the country’s gentle nature. The colors on the elephant reflect modernity, plentifulness, peace, comfort, strength and simplicity.

The mark is to signify 56 standards including service, tourism activity, tourism destination and guiding, and will be awarded after inspection by officials. Travelers who see the mark can be sure the business meets standards of hygiene, safety and cultural significance.

Details on the mark can be found at tts.dot.go.th and Facebook: thailand tourism standard.

These people suffer from a cargo cult mentality.   They create the facade of standards with these documents, and then expect standards to magically rise in accordance with what is written in

So if I get the new symbol tattooed on my forehead, will I get free entry into the National parks, Zoos, and better yet Thailand.  Where is the QR Code, is it embedded in the picture somewhere.

So one trunk is bad.

Five trunks is good?

Or is the hieght of the trunk an indication of quality?

Thankfully no mention of "musth".

More make-work for bureaucrats, I guess.

Does double pricing at National parks and the Ancient City etc get this mark?

TATS new Mascot, guess the Year of the OX is out, and yet it just started.  So much for appeasing the Chinese masters and tourists.

This is a perfect representation of Thailand's capabilities. They are really great at making cartoons and saying lots of words.

That's about it.

Maybe the height of the trunk is an indication of the air quality - need to get that high to find some clean air?

They've probably eaten it already.

A prime example of the "standards" here.

All of this waffle sounds good on paper, but fact is, it's seldom enforced and if it is, then only half-heartedly.

If we build it--they will come?

If we make a new logo--will it attract tourists?....

Pretty sure a jubilant elephant with a raised trunk is something worth running away from or risk being trampled to death

not very detailed, as there are just 8 very simple lines. Those lines are all in black.

if "simplicity" (which it clearly is) than not "detailed" - contradiction.

I can't see any plentifulness and comfort - but probably they have meant tourist establishments, like hotels and restaurants, would have this values

Miserably....

Elephants with tourists on the back aren't really happy sites...but common.

With current world preferences, after the coconut picked by monkeys scandal on the West...

Thailand should be better off with ????+ palm tree probably...less likely to be attacked out, and need to change at extra cost.

you need to stare at it to find the QR Code and the picture of Prayut somewhere inside of the lines.
