CCSA to decide on Feb 22 about lifting Bangkok booze ban, easing restrictions

Thailand’s Centre for Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) will meet on February 22 to discuss relaxing more restrictions, spokesperson Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin said on Monday. 

 

The meeting will focus on a number of areas, including relaxing the restrictions surrounding the serving of alcohol at restaurants and hotels and the opening hours of bars, pubs and other entertainment venues.

 

The CCSA will also consider changing the status of the provinces deemed to be high risk. 

 

Easing restrictions at sporting events in order to allow spectators will also be up for consideration.

 

If restrictions are eased, it could mean that Bangkok, which is currently a ‘high controlled area’ (red zone), would allow alcohol to be consumed in restaurants and nightlife to re-open. 

 

For Pattaya, it could see opening hours of bars, restaurants and pubs extended beyond the current limit of 11pm.

Abut time, it is ridiculous to stop so many businesses from earning money for less than 20 infections a day on a population of over 10 million. 

Way more people dying in traffic every day.

Strange how many other countries are doing the same thing on the same day. No doubt they will all come to the same conclusion.

Luckily for us, the number of traffic deaths is not going to start increasing exponentially if the government and CCSA relax the restrictions at the wrong time or by too much. Why do people insist on making fatuous comparisons between Covid deaths and traffic deaths, haven't you seen what's been going on in Europe an America? The restrictions aren't there because the government wants to stop you from having fun, they're there for your own good, but specifically for the health of the Thai people.

Took me 7 months to find someone I knew and they were a family of 4 who were all tested and had to isolate etc as their 17 year old daughter caught it at work in a hotel . Daughter had similar to cold type symptoms for few days and after that was fine . The other three never caught it despite sharing same house for days before tested .

I have being  saying this for a while why is Bangkok  red 

With no alcohol in restaurants bars ect

When people can freely travel in and out with no restrictions to other provinces 

The sooner the ban is lifted the better

I still haven't seen any scientific data which shows that alcohol and the SARS-COV2 virus are at odds with each other! What does alchohol have o do with the prevention of Covid19? This sounds like a total control hype and a whole lot of chest thumping by people that really don't know what is going on.

Alcohol and SARS-COV2 - I would suspect more concern should be shown to severely punish drunken drivers who injure or kill innocent people. There are still more people dying in car accidents in one day thant the total Covid19 count. I repeat, the total Covid19 body count of which most had comorbidities.

Not the best idea.

Lift the booze ban, people mix. People mix more chance of infection.

USA, UK and many parts of Europe have learnt the hard way.

Covid is lurking somewhere in the background ready to strike.

Thailand has an excellent safety record (well done to everyone) why ruin it for the sake of a few drinks?

I know 2 back in England one was my ex wife 

2000 death's already!!! look how quit it was on the roads with the provinces closed. what gonna happen when everybody have money for gasoline again and the normal live comes back. Januari was also the month that schools were still closed. OMG. i don't want to look ahaed!!

A guy I knew died from Covid-19 15 April 2020. He was only 51 Years old. Only underlaying condition was pre-stage of Diabetes type 2. Not something considered being life threatening.

It is under control, so now the economic damage out ways the risk of a few more people getting sick. Schools are already open for 2 weeks.

Lift the booze ban and at least they can control the conditions that people drink in.

 

Here where I live in Bangkok more and more of the big houses are opening up as party houses with people drinking, socialising with no concerns for Covid-19. These parties tend to go on until 3 or 4 am.  

Many places are selling alcohol secretly in restaurants.  Even Khaosan Road was open selling beer.  Some Thai hidden bars are open.

The booze ban in Bkk is out of all proportion to the problem. Infections numbers in Bkk are tiny compared to the population. There is also no scientific evidence that alcohol consumption leads to higher infections. The virus doesn’t care if people drink alcohol or not.

 

In my area, large groups are sitting at tables at exactly the same distance from each other as they were before the ban. And as others have pointed out, illicit pubs and private parties are riskier than legal, controllable bars.

 

Time to junk this pointless, irrational policy which is causing huge hardship to the 100s of thousands whose livelihoods depend on the nighttime economy.

I know at least 20 people who caught covid,  12 of them had mild to moderate symptoms ( cough, fever, loss of taste, smell etc ) , 5 were asymptomatic , 2 people died ( both were above 70 ) and 1 of them is my 23 year old cousin who is in hospital on a vent now with only a 5% chance of survival in the next few days, so too answer your question no i dont find it strange as covid is real and many people i know have got it

Yep, looks like the gig's up..........  Trial run.......

The real danger during all this chaos has been the MSM, this lot needs hanging up....... Countrys decimated all over the world by horror stories constantly pumped out every minute of everyday.....    If anyone doesn't smell a rat amongst all this chaos and pain then the hysteria has done its job......  You'll see very shortly a lifting of all restrictions and the gig's over......... Till the next one......... Practice makes perfect as they say.......and by the way, Flu's always been here along with many of viruses and diseases a lot more deadly than C19 has proved to be..... 

Apparently Ebola's on the warpath again....... Now there's a real killer......

I know people who have had Covid and know of two people who have died from it. Guess generalisation in comments isn't always the best.

Ebola kills itself by killing quickly thus the chance of spreading widely is extremely unlikely. Again it is worth noting the long term affects of covid. Flu you get over. There is still a lot to learn about this one and it's changing nature. This is a virus that is highly contageous which can have no affect, mild affects, severe affects and death.

He said "so many of us" which indicates he didn't generalize.  Count us and all the people we know among the so many who don't know any one who has had the covid 19 virus.

Well why say it at all? People do know people who have had, have or have died from covid. It's not a percentage thing. It's people. I've known 1 person (friend) who died in a traffic accident and two (freinds) who have committed suicide. Some people will know more, some less. It's the nature of things.

Because it's true.  Many people, like us,  don't know anyone who has had the virus.  It's rare.  The fact that you're surrounded by people who have passed doesn't change that.  I also don't know anyone who has committed suicide.  That doesn't mean it doesn't happen.  It speaks to it's rarity.

According to Bangkok Post, on 22 Feb CCSA will move Bangkok to Orange status. That would normally mean bars and restaurants allowed to sell booze till 2300.

I find it funny. What's wrong with buying the booze at a shop? There is no real booze ban in Bangkok.

Perhaps you should really be asking why does Bangkok have no restrictions on travel while it is a red zone. 

 

Is the glass half empty or half full?

 

For me I'd be more considerate of the 50 million outside of Bangkok than the 10 million in it and lock it down.
