Transfer of vehicle ownership

What does a foreigner need to legally have a vehicle's title transferred into his name? I understand that new car purchases may require Work Permits and/or a long-stay visa but if acquiring a pre-owned vehicle from a Thai person, is the same evidence required or just a passport and yellow book/pink ID card? What are the transfer fees (if any) and is it a one-day job or a protracted, multiple visit experience?

Thanks!

NL

On a motorcycle I would think the same as a car/truck all I needed at our local DLT office was passport & yellow house book.

Was there a fee? Done in one visit? While you wait?

Any used car flippers out there?

All done on the first day was filling forms to change name in book and present forms for transfer, new plate number for my province. ( which you don't need to do if you don't want to )  bike inspection, paid for everything including road tax & CTPL. can't remember how much but not a big cost.

Went back 3 weeks later and picked up book and number plate, give previous number plate back.

One day multiple visit experience: come early morning, give scan of passport & original passport & residence certificate (or work permit) & signed vehicle transfer form & copy of owner's passport & owner's original passport & blue book,  get a queue ticket.

With a queue ticket go to inspection, wait for another queue, get blue book back, go to pay tax (tax is 0.5% of the selling price + 300 THB if I remember correctly).

After paying tax get another queue ticket and come back after noon. Give ticket and get the blue book with your name added.

Done

So I’ve just transferred a motorcycle into my name. All I needed was my passport and confirmation of address. Took the MC to the vehicle centre, they just checked engine and frame numbers against the book, handed over a receipt for the Thb fee of 1,700. Book was ready in a couple of days.

If your buying from a Thai, get them to help, it greases the process.

What was the value of the motorcycle?

Passport with valid 1 year visa/extension, letter off residence/yellow book, some money and an awful lot of patience, a mask.

1 year Visa is not required.  You dont need any visa or work permit.

Nanlaew you might need to get a medical certificate. This was mentioned in the news last week. Not sure when that requirement will start or if it will be enforced.
