Thai 60-day tourist visas from embassies now require "bank statements with sufficient funds to cover your trip to Thailand"

 

This is rather nebulous. Do I have enough already?  Or do I need to transfer some cash in. How would one know?

 

Can someone tell me exactly how much $$$$ I need to keep in my checking account to satisfy this requirement?

The standard requirement to apply for visas is 20k baht or $700 US (us embassy rate). I would consider that the minimum.

The UK Embassy recently asked a colleague of mine to show evidence of 700 pounds sterling. That is a very minimal amount, considering the cost of the flight, the mandatory insurance and the ASQ hotel.
