I actually asked about similar to my burmese friends.

They said most still call it burma and many in the countryside dont even know it was changed to myanmar.

They refer to it as burma.

Most where you are maybe, but they are in the minority. I live 15kms from the Myanmar border, and there are more Myanmar people here than Thai, and they ALL call it Myanmar and have NEVER called it Burma. Even the local hill tribe people refer to it as Myanmar. You will most likely find that the Myanmar friends you have are referring to Mynamar under the old dialect name of Bama, and it just sounds like Burma.

I guess you've never heard of the S400 missile system purely developed for defending.

To wonder why they developed it is not rocket science excuse the pun. ????

You claim that the Russians a way ahead of the US when it comes to advanced weapons and when I ask for proof you tell me to Google one single weapons system??

LOL, your credibility is off the charts!

I don't believe that America is trailing anyone when it comes to military tech. It would be a big mistake to underestimate them.

It's obvious you have no understanding of weapon systems which is understandable if you're American.

No. 1 and God bless America is all you but not all can compute in there minds.

Met American people here in my village lovely company and many were embarrassed of what their US Govt's had done.

you better get allied with Russia then. With China going to the moon with them you could be up ***** creek without a sickle. Though Boris is talking about nuking up a few weapons so you may be saved lol..

I believe you overestimate on how many Americans would be willing to die in a possible conflict. The US has neither the will nor public backing to get into a conflict with a foe that can wipe millions of American citizens off the map. It's all empty posturing...

Still waiting for links to credible sources proving that Russian weapons systems in general are more advanced that the US systems.

Should I hold my breath?

That much is obvious. We don't disagree there. How we go about it, is the crux of the matter. Trump's sledgehammer, bull in a "China" closet approach failed miserably. Any ideas?

It's obvious you've got nothing but empty insults based on nationality. And your little aside about what lovely company your alleged American neighbors are like is both irrelevant and shouldn't fool anyone.

During WW2 shipbuilding and weapons manufacturing were well established fields as was aircraft manufacturing albeit in small quantities. Fighter aircraft like the Spitfire and Hurricane could be built in less than a day. How long does it take to build an F35 from scratch?

https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/21367/it-takes-47000-hours-of-labor-to-build-a-single-f-35a

The chart below shows exactly how many labor hours are poured into constructing each F-35 variant on average. With the A model unsurprisingly being the lowest at 41,541 hours in 2017, the more complex B model taking 57,152 hours, and the carrier-capable C model coming in at 60,121 hours.

Of course they don't just build one at a time but run a production line. They are also dependent on engine makers, electronics and so many other manufacturers for the just in time deliveries.

Tricky to say. Lockheed made 91 of them this year. That's a new one every 4 days but it takes on average around 40,000 man hours to complete an F-35A and closer to 60,000 for the other two variants. Although these rates are 60% lower than previous years. So depending on team size and such would tell from start to finish how many days.

The cost seems to be anywhere between $60 and $90 million per aircraft depending on the model and which website you choose.

WW2 Spitfires were estimated at about GBP 5,000 and not many survived the war. (1940s prices)

Some were shot down and some were crashed with few hours on the airframe, bits might be salvaged and the rest scrapped for the aluminium.

In todays air warfare the lost of even 1 aircraft means that its replacement my take a year to deliver.

Let's see where this goes. Hopefully joe will cover it in his first press conference.

There is NO country known as Burma, and technically never has been. The correct name is Myanmar. Historically, based on location within the country and dialect spoken, it was always known as either Myanma or Bama and it was a province of India. historical & legal documents going back hundreds of years bear this out. The name Burma came about as the result of lazy, ignorant British foreigners translating the name to Burma because it was easier for them to pronounce, after they declared the country was no longer a province of British ruled India and they renamed it Burma in 1824 as part of their colonisation of the area. The Myanmar military changed the name to Myanmar in 1989, and shortly thereafter the UN officially recognised Myanmar as the correct name for the country. The USA is the only major country that for some strange reason to this day still does not officially recognise Myanmar as the country's name, even though they voted in support of the UN resolution to accept Myanmar as the country's correct name. Just another instance of US Govt hypocrisy. The majority of Myanmar people have NEVER officially recognised Burma as the name of their country.

A good read until, "...as the result of lazy, ignorant British foreigners...". Your credibility vanished after that.

It is amazing how small the Russian economy really is. It is only for historical reasons and their 7,000 nuclear strong arsenal that keep them at the big boys table.

While the population of Russia is almost five times that of Texas, Texas outpaces Russia when it comes to GDP. Russia's gross domestic product amounts to about 1.3 trillion, while the Lone Star State's comes to about 1.7 trillion. That means Texas crushes Russia when it comes to per capita GDP.

Russia should have a thriving economy, if it weren't for an incompetent leader who is looking at the past rather than at the future. Of course, also if it weren't so corrupt.

Russia has a lot of natural resources, a good education system and a good scientific and technical level. There's a huge potential but It's been mismanaged.

I beg to differ make no mistake the Chinese think in terms of centuries not days or minutes (trump) they are the oldest hands at diplomacy and negotiating do not underestimate them I think they just tryed to test the waters so to speak keep in mind they just had a 4 year vacation from any real policy with the last administration who only thought as far ahead as the next news cycle imo

The topic is about China/US talks.  Nothing about Putin or your weird Trump thoughts.

Do you see President Trump in your dreams, your everyday activities?  Get some help, man.

Trump did not do so well with China. He lost the trade war with them, and was absolutely pummeled by Xi, one minute into the first round. Not to mention losing to Kim, Putin, MBS, and everyone else he negotiated with. Biden is a far stronger leader. He has some principals! What a concept.

Exactly. So far I don't see any mention of the Trump supporters to them claiming Biden would roll over for China?

Maybe true, but a lot of these aircraft are more advanced than the vast majority of what they may come up against.  In a lot of cases, all they need is a tune-up.

The USA has mothballed and even scrapped aircraft that would be the envy of most adversaries.

My wife could not believe the world around her when she got access to YouTube.

Then you must have got one out of some rural village. (Dongbei area perhaps?)

After many times with her in Europe, and now two years living here in Bangkok... Mine is super nationalist and patriotic, far more than I could ever feel towards my home country. And keep in mind, that I was raised in the center of a militaries/politicians family in Europe.... so if anyone should be patriotic and nationalist that should be me, but nothing in comparison to her ????

Tbh sometimes I couldn't care less about my own country. Sometimes I see Brits bashing Spain (my home country) on Gibraltar, and I just pretend I didn't see it. Other times I see someone bashing China, and I jump right into bashing back, even if it's not even my country!!! I guess countries are just like friends, when somebody is good to you and gives you chances, you defend them. Otherwise you couldn't care less, regardless of who is on the right side and who is on the wrong side...

I must question the veracity of this statement, they can’t have been that lazy and ignorant, as after all, they did travel half way around the world in to conquer the place.

Ironically, you are referring to us British by our Roman colonial name, the correct indigenous name is Albion. Mind you, as the Romans killed 15-25% of the local population, I can see why the survivors just kept their heads down, embraced the name change, and enjoyed the aqueducts, roads and improved sanitation.

“England” is also a colonial legacy from the days of the Angles, who also bestowed upon us a Germanic language, replacing the native Celtic tongue. Of course, it should really be Angland but those Albiones/Anglish were quick to show their lazy and ignorant tendencies and couldn’t even get that right!
