Superpoll: Thais overwhelmingly say open the country to foreign tourism

REUTERS FILE PHOTO for reference only

More than 90% of the population of Thailand want to see the country opened up to foreign tourists.

This is not just to get the tourism economy running but the whole economy, they said.

This will put money back in their pockets, reported Daily News.

The support for an open door policy came in a "Superpoll" survey conducted among 1,600 respondents from all backgrounds from 17th to 20th of March.

The poll had the umbrella of "Opening the country - getting out of crisis".

Also more than 90% of the population felt that Thais have the vaccine now and know how to live with the consequences of Covid and have the health personnel to cope.

But those 90% plus advocating the opening of the country also wanted to see an end to the political violence, the gravy train and  corrupt politicians.

They wanted to see foreign governments not siding with the "mob" but promoting the opening of the country and economy.

The message was clear that people are fed up with violence and want to see economic stability return and the best way to do that was opening Thailand's doors again.

They may have to wait a while yet, however.

The Thai government has so far only announced cautious policies to reopen the country in October when it has been mooted that quarantine MIGHT be stopped.

For now foreign visitors must still quarantine for up to 10 days.

Interesting that here it's referred to as a mob, but the riots in Myanmar are accepted as the citizens fighting for their rights. I always wonder how they pick these people to poll and if they ever

  • This is the same poll company that stated that over 97% of the population agreed with the detention of the pro-democracy activists! So I think you are right!

  • And suddenly the Thais like us again. Lol.

Actually not at all. Somehow the ultra yellow monarchists are blaming the burmese for thier trouble, saying this is what comes of getting rid of your monarchy, etc etc and is totally blind to the Tatmadaw being an unelected brutal force on its citizens.. Its a rabbit hold of blind idiocy in fact.

Amazing how this company always delivers exactly what the government want to hear.

Survey was done with hotel owners, shopping mall owners, private hospital owners, massage ladies, entertainment girls.

All agreed: let them in and spend their money.

These "Super" polls are always a bit suspect. They always seem to favor the current regime a bit too strongly. If you're going to cook the numbers, at least make them believable, and not like some Saddam Hussein election results.

"107% of Thais polled love the current government."

Hardly surprising result......many Thais must be on their knees by now.........how about a radical change in some of the tax structures to boost the economy........pointless having taxes so high that ordinary Thais cannot even buy certain products without the purchase having such a significant impact on their lives......... the current tax structure does nothing but feed the government and its Army of Generals.....it is not geared to promote the economy or help ordinary Thais

strange poll results, as just a few months ago:

"Super Poll finds over 80% support protesters’ demands"

situation is getting desperate for the government. On twitter on weekend over 4mln shared police brutality under #ม็อบ20มีนา . Prayuth is heading today emergency meeting

""As protesters were dispersing, some allegedly went on a rampage, vandalizing portraits of HM the King along Ratchadamnoen Avenue" https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thai-pm-to-head-a-security-meeting-on-monday-to-assess-political-situation/

because of the harsh crackdown the leading protest group urged tourists not to visit thailand as a military run country

Oh what a difference a few months makes:

‘Keep foreign tourists out’ says poll

THAILAND: A majority of people do not want foreign tourists to return anytime soon while the COVID-19 situation in the country is improving, saying foreigners could spread the disease and Thai people should be able to enjoy the country first, according to the results of an opinion survey by the Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, or Suan Dusit Poll.

but most important question is 90% of how many  555

are these the same 90% that will be asking the government to stop foreigners from entering as soon 1-2 cases are detected... same 90% that said Prayut and his cronies were doing great handling the virus......

we are keen to get to Thailand but as there are no planes from Perth then its a bit difficult ! Bet that wasn't mentioned in the biased poll !  When will Thai Airways start flying again ? Or will they get sold off ?

Is this the polling company set up by the military about the time of the 2014 coup?

Well, the poll was with 1600 people - that's about 0.002% of the population; a long way from 90%!

Who was doing the poll, TAT!

Wonder if they would get the same results if the poll was called "The poll had the umbrella of "Opening the country - to the risk of thousands dying"?

I wonder what they were really asked eg. Do you agree all Thais should be vaccinated and then open up to tourists?

  • Popular Post

Yes open up. Let tourists in who have proof of vaccination without quarantine. Stop quarantine.  Tourist with 3 weeks holiday don't go into quarantine for 10-14 days.

And let those 50 mighty filthy rich Thai families pay much more tax on income, savings, investments, gifts and inheritance. Up to 70% please.

I really doubt that these Thai polls are real polls at all. I guess there is someone in the Ministry of Propaganda who has the duty just to create and write down the "poll results" in a way suitable to support the governments policy of the day.
