The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is to propose a new travel bubble model, for tourists from certain countries or cities, to enter the country without the requirement for quarantine, called “Sandbox”. If approved, it will be trialed on the resort island of Phuket.

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said today that, under the Sandbox model, which will be proposed to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) at its meeting on Friday, the Thai government or a Thai city will negotiate with their foreign counterparts to arrange a travel bubble, to allow the two sets of citizens, who have been vaccinated, to visit specific areas without having to be quarantined.

He said that Phuket has been chosen as the first city for the trial of the Sandbox model, but authorities concerned must first check the readiness of the private sector and the local people to accept the model, adding that the first group of foreign tourists is likely to be Chinese.

If they start it in Pattaya, won't they lose the sand as soon as it rains?

Well you got to hand it to T.A.T. for coming up with another fantastic idea.

Only problem is..... No tourists.????

I don't understand.

Either , vaccinated people were safe, and as such should be allowed everywhere without quarantine, or they are not and should quarantine .

How are they safe in Phuket but not in Khon Kaen, or any other place ?

Stop making announcements and make a damn decision.

There is a misunderstanding I guess. People with vaccination can have the virus. They MIGHT not get sick and if they get sick they MIGHT not develop severe symptoms. Vaccination is not a 100 percent guarantee for anything.

Another day, another bs. Nice. I like to start my morning with a laugh... ????

A "sandbox" IS a quarantine.  If people are vaccinated, then why continue to require quarantines regardless of what they are called.
Well - unless the vaccines that are being touted as "vaccines" don't actually keep people from contracting and spreading Covid. ????

So - which is it?  If vaccines are as effective as their manufacturers claim, then there should be no need for "sandbox" quarantines.
As long as tourists are fenced and guarded and their travel restricted by force - Thailand isn't going to be a choice place to come to.
If you want tourist to come Thailand, then emulate Mexico - no travel restrictions (or restrictions on when you can drink a vacation beer) and the welcome mat is rolled out.

Why not let people in anyone who has been vaccinated? They would obviously be low risk. All these stupid plans, concocted by the morons running the country. Ridiculous.

Shock and horror!! Didn't see that coming...

PMSL. A Thai wants to visit London but is given Blackpool instead. As if that will ever happen.

If that is true , and I don't agree that it is, but that's a different argument.

Then it is also not safe for Phuket also .  or are people in Phuket expendable or have a superpowered that protect them from covid.?

I agree. Vaccination has been proven to be extremely effective in protecting individuals from serious illness and death. What's not known at this point, is whether those who have been vaccinated are capable of carrying and transmitting the virus to others, and if so, for how long after exposure.

Haha, you gotta laugh when they say “certain countries or cities”, which basically means Japan, Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan (sorry), Shenzhen.. ????
