Once you have jumped through all the hoops and got a stamp in you passport for extention of stay in Thailand with a date can this be revoked or changed by Thai immigration?

I mean under normal circumstances living in Thailand not if you break the law or do something stupid.

There are quite a few sections under the immigration law that allow for visas to be revoked but as far as I know all of them are in response to the recipient having done something wrong to get it ie misrepresented something eg fake degree or breaking the law afterwards. Bottom line is that a visa is simply a permit to stay at the discretion of the issuing country it does not protect you under the law. An extreme situation to cancel visas would be in the outbreak of war between your country and the issuing country. The visa is automatically revoked at the time war is declared. You would be arrested as an alien and either face internment or deportation.

The second option is if the law changeds in regards to that visa eg the amount of money that is required to qualify for a retirement or business visa. That normally will not affect anyone currently having a visa for that category.

Bottom line is if you have done all the right things to get the visa and don't get arrested for something while you are under that visa it is very unlikely it will be revoked or changed.

If you are concerned for any reason you really should seek specialist advice from an experienced immigration lawyer before the situation arises.

Hope this helps

Yes.

If you quit a job your work permit is cancelled and your Non Imm visa will also be revoked and you will be given a few weeks to pack up and leave.

OK and what if the company you have the WP for does not require your services anymore? (you get the sack!)

Really? I always thought it was five days ...

Sorry, but being laid off is the same as quitting. 7 days to get out of the country, unless, of course, your ex-employer forgets to notify the Labor Dept. that you are no longer with them.

1. You do not lose a visa if you lose a job. A visa is only used to enter the country.

2. If you are on an extension of stay for employment and lose it believe the rule is return work permit within 7 days and exit country within 7 days of work permit return.

3. If you cease to have the valid reason for extension you could lose that extension.

Here is one more special case:

I went and applied for a multi-entry O visa, and left my passport at the consulate. Later that day I was notified of a job in Thailand that I was to preform....hence I need a B visa now.

I was going to go to Thailand with my wife first and return an few weeks later for a short job. When I went the following day I asked the Consulate if it was possible to have both a O and B visa, both multi-entry and just declare the visa I needed each time I came into the Kingdom....

Answer: If you apply for the B visa we will cancel your O visa even if you have not used it yet...(No refund either).

So yes visa can be canceled.

Interesting. I entered on one year multi entry Type O in late 2004. Within the first month of my 90 days, I was offered a job and before the original 90 days was finished, I had received my work permit and a type B one year extension (from the date of my entry on the type O).

What they didn't tell you, and may not have known, is that you probably had no reason to change your visa. You can work on a non immigrant O visa and if you decide to extend your stay for the family income you would not be subject to losing your extension if you lost or changed jobs.

heres another instance ...this one though was problem getting a visa cancelled!

12 years or so ago after quiting my job in LOS, I found a new employer the following week also in LOS. Upon leaving the first job naturally I left them my work permit, but i did not give them my passport ( not with me at the time ).

My new employer sent me down to singapore for a new non imm "b" visa.

Thai embassy in Singapore would not issue me with a new visa as I still had a valid visa from old job. So I asked them to cancel the old one then and can I have a new one please. No can do, we need written letter from your old employer to cancel the current visa replied the embassy. Well blow me I was in the proverbial **** because I left my first job after a blazing row and so not on the best of terms.

After a lot of bowing and scraping and a few more days the old company finaly agreed to fax said letter and eventualy I did get a new visa. :o

That might be true now.

When I quit it was 1989 and the rules may have changed. :o

I mean under normal circumstances living in Thailand not if you break the law or do something stupid.

I have a non-immigrant "O" visa and on the 8th of December 2006 I went to Malaysia via the Sadao border crossing as my 90 days was up. When I returned to Thailand the immigration officer stamped my passport for 30 days! I pointed out to him that I had a non-immigrant visa so he crossed the date out and wrote in the 6th of September 2007 (9 months!).

I was a bit suspicious but didn't say anything. In theory, all I had to do now was to report to any immigration every 90 days to notify them of my address. However, when I went to immigration in BKK on the 6 th of March, they told me that the officer had made a mistake and that I had to leave Thailand the next day and subsequently changed the date in my passport back to the 7th of March. No apology, no 1 or 2 days grace, nothing.

How do you expect an apology when it was your fault for not being honest and pointing out the mistake to immigration at Sadao (Padang Besar) ????.. Live by the sword......Mate i would have been tempted to do it as well, but it is against the rules hey..
