BANGKOK (NNT) - Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has expressed regret over the death of a 71-year-old assistant abbot at Wat Samphanthawong in Bangkok a few hours after receiving a Covid-19 vaccine, and said the vaccine might not have been the cause.

He said an autopsy would determine cause of death of the monk, and there was no reason for the public to panic about vaccination. The assistant abbot was reported to have had severe diabetes and high blood pressure. He was given a dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine about 10am on Wednesday and was found dead in his quarters about 2pm.

Mr Anutin said the Covid-19 vaccine’s safety had been tested and approved by the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Medical Sciences before being rolled out.

The question is...did he receive the pucker AZ vaccine or the Thai version made under license in Thailand........or maybe he was a Trump fan and went for Domestos?

There is no "Thai version" and no vaccine made under license in Thailand...yet.

Siam Bioscience claims they will start producing 10million AZ vaccines in Thailand per month from June, and be the savior of Thailand.

Tick, tick, tick....

Vaccine deaths 30? Maybe

Covid deaths 2,760,000 definite......mmmm?

Theres been a lot of concern in the press about blood clots with the Astra Zenica vaccine.  Unfortunately that and the Sinovac are the only options available here.

I would say it is a likely possibility the vaccine did in fact kill him

But why must Anutin hide this possibility? Why not just tell the Thai people ...Yes sometimes a vaccine kills

x% in x amount of cases etc do in fact die as a result.

Same as many contracted polio from the polio vaccine or died. It is deemed acceptable odds. Why do Thai govt officials always

talk down to the population as if they are children...This ultimately creates...children who cannot handle facts in life.

Once in a blue moon, a seat belt won't unlatch and the result is a horrible death in a fiery crash.

But the numbers still say it's a good idea to fasten your seatbelt.  They save many, many more lives than they take.

It's the same way with the Covid vaccine decision.

Anutin's new role will be to naysay all deaths that happen after an AstraZenaca vaccine.  He should get a cardboard cutout like Prayut and set up speakers which repeats: "No correlational; not the cause; nothing to see here.  Move along."

AZ is about the last vaccine I'd consider.  I'd have to be under extreme duress to take it (or other experimental vaccines) and I'd opt for vaccines base on inactivated virus technology when they are available.  It is still an experimental vaccine, as are most being rolled out now,  and will be for years, i.e., until there are independent assessments of human trial data by organizations and regulatory bodies that have no conflicts of interest by association with the manufacturers.  The only proven technologies at this time are based on inactivated viruses which have decodes of research to support their use.

In five years time present the general public with independent analysis of safety and efficacy and I'll consider them based on the finding.

I'm with you there.  I'll wait thank you.

However, the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing infection. This means a small percentage of fully vaccinated people can be expected to still get COVID-19. These are identified as breakthrough cases.

Thailand has the lowest vaccination rollout in SE Asia because continuing flip flops on policy, which of course we have come to expect from the military Muppets.

Maybe in such extreme cases it's better to opt-out of the vaccination?

Tick, tick, tick....

AZ corporate in their philanthropy said that the vaccines to make the world safe (round 1) will be produced and sold 'at cost.'  Therefore there is no profit incentive to produce vaccines at the moment.  The only incentive to produce vaccines at all is world criticism regarding AZ's choice of a company which can't seem to get it's production up to speed and provide vaccines to protect Thais and other ASEAN countries from the plague that threatens to wipe humanity off the face of the Earth.

Tick, tick, tick...

Now, when all the manufacturers produce vaccines to make the world safe from the upcoming pandemics which we have been promised will arrive, then round 2, round 3, round 4...... round_n will be sold at a significant profit.
<ringing bell, sirens, sound of money pouring out of slot machine with 777>

Then I'm sure SB will be in full production mode.

soon be able to pickup bundles of them; below cost price,  "at an NQR (NotQuiteRight) grocery store near you!"

or maybe better still; at an ALDI - because they don't use artificial colouring additives either, to make things look more natural...
