Tourism vs. Vaccinations

Featured Replies

Wouldn't Thailand be making more money on tourism if it had started large-scale vaccinations a couple of months ago?   I don't know the details about vaccine procurement, but it appears that Thailand wants to keep most expenditures on vaccines in-country.  Have vaccines been available for Thailand to purchase from other countries?   This recent outbreak could have been prevented if most of the party attendees had been vaccinated, couldn't it?

Where could they have procured more than 100 million vaccines a few months ago?

Yes, I know who owns the company but I don't know why it couldn't have started producing the vaccine two months ago.  The details apparently are not known, or at least are not talked about.

May have had to do with need to import raw materials.

But yes, of course Thailand in the meantime could have imported. Cambodia did and is way ahead of them as a result, well over a million doses and going strong.

I think over-complacency set in leading the powers to be (not to be confused with health professionals) to think there was no rush to start vaccinating

The US, Israel, lots of small countries.

You've got military leaders running this country.  And many politicians are there because of their connections, not their expertise.  Anutin is a great example.  Minister of public health, with a degree in engineering.  Go figure.

You make an excellent point.  I'm sure many would have come here for vaccination holidays.  And paid big money to do so.  And in the end, it would have helped the country and the economy.

We were on track for a fairly good summer until the 3rd wave started.  Due to politicians crossing the border illegally and not practicing safe guidelines, as put forth by the minister of public health.

Just read that USA's step-child State of Alaska will offer tourists free vaccine.

Alaska will offer COVID-19 vaccines to tourists starting June 1
Other components of a state campaign to boost the tourism industry amid a cruise-travel shutdown include a multimillion-dollar ad campaign and $150 million in economic relief for tourism businesses.

mmmm, maybe Neg CV test to enter.  Then free vaccine shot.   The cost of the vaccine may well be offset by the THB spent by Tourists.

Most states in the U.S. now are vaccinating anybody over the age of 16. Started 2 weeks ago here in Arizona.
