Thailand has failed in its attempt to overturn its suspension from weightlifting and to challenge the principle of member federations being held responsible for the actions of its athletes and coaches.

In a 52-page ruling which carries huge significance for the weightlifting world, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Thailand's arguments and the nation remains suspended.

The decision was welcomed today by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). CAS upheld a decision by an independent panel that Thailand had "brought weightlifting into disrepute" through a doping scandal.

The Bangkok laboratory found tiny traces of steroids in the gel - too low for a doping violation - but analysis by a different laboratory for the International Testing Agency (ITA) revealed that the real level was more than 1,000 times higher.

So who trusts Thai labs????

Anti doping is really a waste of time, and to be quite honest, it's unfair due to the fact that each county will test very differently giving some country teams an  advantage or disadvantage. all pro athletes are taking PED's. So really the best thing to do is to just let them take what they want and make it a fair  playing field.

Arent the tests done by an international organization when it its an international event. So all are tested equally. I can't imagine that they let the countries test their own athletes.

But doping is rampart in sports, think lance armstrong (USA) and many many others. Its just a technology race finding stuff that is not banned or detectable. I heard stories of people bringing condoms with pee from someone else to pass pee tests.

So it has failed. Also you can take doping before and then get stronger and its out of your system when the event starts.

That's not really the message civilised societies want to be sending aspiring athletes and children though is it.

Of course, and i'm not encouraging people to take them,  but unfortunately  at such competitive levels, this is how things are in the world of professional sports . they are always going to be looking for that slight advantage..

They can keep it hidden from aspiring athletes, or be open to the fact about the use of PEDS. Either way, they will eventually find out, if and when they reach a professional level.

Yes, during the time of competitions, but  not while they're training in their home countries.

There is a really interesting video about this . ( Link below) worth a watch if you have the time

Exactly, nail on the head.

Afaik the tests are only done by the organization shortly before the competition. The rest of the year the tests are only done by the countries (and some countries don't do any tests, or even support doping).
