Bat Houses for Mosquito Control?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone has tried putting up bat houses around their house/farm to help control mosquitoes, & flies?

If so, how effective was it, were you able to notice a decline in the amount of mosquitoes? I was thinking of making some

to help reduce the population around our farm, along with some other measures (mosquito traps, insecticidees/larvacides).

Thanks!

Would do no harm to try that, and not expensive, do you have

any bats in your area, ? we had a colony in a big tree near our

house at night they would come out and eat the insects flying

around the street lights,

So you may need to put some lights up too to attract the insects

at night, or the bats might just fly away looking for better hunting

grounds. good luck

regards worgeordie

Have you lived close to a bat colony and inhaled their droppings smell? I have a tree that the flowers attract bats. As soon as a flower appears the wife is out with the axe to remove it.

Your the 1st person I ever heard talk about the issue of bat droppings! If the smell is that bad, I would definitely keep the bat houses away from house!
