Bangkok plans to inoculate 70% of its inhabitants, at the rate of 50,000 people per day. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will set up 14 locations across the city, outside hospitals, starting June 1st.

Bangkok Governor, Aswin Kwanmuang, said that the BMA has joined forces with the Thai Chamber of Commerce to organise the campaign, in which those aged over 60 and those with congenital diseases will be inoculated first.

The governor said everyone in Bangkok, including the vulnerable, are covered by the plan. They might, however, consider allocating vaccines to other groups, if the inoculation plan does not meet its goal.

70% of 66,000,000 people = 46,200,000 people /50,000 jabs per day = 924 days /365 days per year = 2.5 years to vaccinate 70% of the population.

What about the other 30%?

Migrants illegally entering Thailand?

Tourists?

Children.  The vaccines are not yet approved on under 16 year olds.

Nothing is relabelled.

The plan is to make AZ gthe main vaccine.

They have been using Sinovac as an interim measure to immunize the certain  t priority groups (e.g. health workers) as they are waiting for local production of AZ vaccine.

The decision to rely in local production of a brand new vaccine and vaccine technology -- influenced I think by complacency because the first waves of this were mild and easily controlled -- is what has caused vaccination to be so slow in starting 'in Thailand.

front line workers across the whole country should be first in line for vaccination - medical staff - medical support staff - police - transportation staff, then once they are all done by 2022 then a role out to the general public

Do not forget that this is likely an annual vaccine ... so an impossible task at a 50k per day run rate.

70% of a population (any size distribution) at 50% efficacy = 35% of the entire distribution unlikely to need hospitalization for sickness while the remaining 65% remains exposed to sickness requiring hospitalization..

So what happens to the 30% who don't get an injection... can they sue the government if they become infected?

Now let's be fair.   He said "Bangkok".   That will take only 9 months,   Bangkok may then be able to attract tourists again by next March.   At least it will be in time for Songkran 2022.

As to us lot out in the boonies, your guess is as good as mine as to when we will get the needle.

LOL. People need to learn math.

Population of Bangok in 2021: 10.7M

Eligible population.. Adults (about 80%): 8.56M

Target 70%: 6M

@ 50,000 a day = 120 days (~ 4 months)

Maybe they know that not everyone can or will take it.

And why can't they vaccine the whole population.

Oh, sorry, 70% done, you don't get any vaccine and sorry that you can't travel abroad as you won't get a vaccine certificate.

Solly, krub.

Actually I had assumed they meant 70% of the adult population, not 100% of all adults. That is the only way it is possible to  do this by end of the year.

No vaccine program reaches 100%. They have set 70% of eligible people (i.e. adults) as their target

And what's about the so called vaccine passport. To travel, you probably will need it in the future. No vaccine, no passport, no liberty.

In all vaccinations, the target is 70% of a population. That is the estimated time when things will start getting back to normal and the virus grinds to halt in spreading. Of course, they will continue vaccinating.

Also, you overestimate how many Thais actually travel abroad.

This is true for vaccines which give people immunity to catching the disease.

I predict it won't work at all, and we'll be living in an endless cycle of lockdowns and infection waves with all recreational travel (for everyone except the extremely wealthy) being severely restricted, and international travel being almost non-existent.

That is not what efficacy means. AZ vaccines prevents 100% of the vaccinated from needing hospitalization. Sinovac prevents 80%+.

So what your proposition? Sit around do nothing?

Population of Bangkok is approx 11m x 2 shots = 22m shots at 50,000 shots a day.

I think the population is a lot higher than that anchadian--I know you can google near to 11 million , but its widely recognized that these are people in their "Blue Book system" so many people living working in BKK have their homes down as Ban Knock---you can see this when something like Songran comes up and the place empties out.
