It would I estimate take over 14 days to see if the current measures have any effect on the figures, but then again I will admit being no expert on these matters

Deaths are a lagging indicator to hospitalizations particularly people on ventilators.

So likely more than two weeks to hopefully see a downward trend.

How does Thailand's death from Covid rate compare to the countries that have done "best"? I don't know, but I think they would be Taiwan, Korea and Vietnam?

Thailand's current case fatality rate (deaths out of confirmed cases) is relatively low compared to a lot of other countries. But it's been rising as the recent deaths have been adding up. It's a statistic that's also driven in part by how aggressive any particular country is in testing for and finding confirmed cases.

Over a year now to learn from, implement...and attempt to do what it always does best from others  "Copy".

Apart from  Cambodia and Vietnam. Thailand and the rest of SE. Asia flounders.

Meanwhile USA, UK and Israel forge ahead.

They are going to test 1,000 a day until the 19th, why only a thousand a day, why spread it out over such a long period of time allowing the virus to spread further, there should be mass tests now. Its a community of 80,000 people and thats just the documented ones.

The people running the testing are aware that more testing is better. But, they have made the determination that 1,000 samples per day are sufficient to understand the positivity rate in Klong Toey.

Indeed this is true. The question is why. Thailand had the same lax approach early on, if not worse. And yet the virus didn't take hold. I would assume it's due to ventilation. Most houses in Thailand have windows and doors open, many of them are open to the air always. February and March in the UK sees everybody shut up indoors with everything closed.
Also it might be a genetic situation.. There is also a theory that SARS back in the early 2000s might have swept through Asia without causing many deaths. The original SARS virus gives immunity to COVID-19. Nobody really knows though, hopefully Thailand can get its act together with this new variant. Goodluck.

Discharging old, infected patients back to nursing homes to free up hospital beds was not a good idea. A vast number of UK deaths were in nursing homes.

"On Phuket today, the Chalong district hospital was closed until further notice after several medics were quarantined when an elderly patient, who came to the hospital for treatment on April 28th, returning two days later for treatment for fatigue and breathing difficulties, tested positive for COVID-19."

The main problem here in Thailand is the lack of self discipline within the Thai people themselves.

It is not just people that work the production lines, but also those who are much higher up the food chain, who do not have the inner fortitude to do the correct thing at the correct time.

For all Thais sitting round a 2 M square mat eating with their fingers from a Somtam Dish, with BBQ, and necking down the Beer and Whisky, is their way to relax and enjoy each others company. This has been going on for Millenniums and is not going to change any time soon.

Sadly, there is a huge downside to this behavior during something such as this Covid pandemic, and its that the disease is being spread uncontoled throughout the population.

Not too different from the rest of humanity.

Klong Toei is a ghost area already.

Bangkok University is nearly abandoned.

Kluay Nam Thai road to Rama 4 is almost depleted of any traffic.

At Narong exit ( that boarders the slums) and is across from the main gates to the shipping docks is eerily quite.

Beware:  traveller's take warning.

Yes but after paying a heavy price

You have to remember South East Asia is no stranger to viruses coming out of china.......they have previous experience.

This is new to Europe, the US and the UK.

But won't be forgotten next time.

Lots of people die at home.  It happens so fast with some they either can't summon help or don't know how serious their condition is.

How is the re-opening bragging going Thailand?

This was the update overnight, before today's latest deaths tally:

The government report today said Phuket had 15 new cases in the latest day.

Oh good to see, LOL!

So it STARTS july 1 2021.  That's one month minimum from when it starts for the population.  Look at the USA - they have what percentage with one shot?  And the case rate has dropped but there are still lockdowns.

How long to inoculate the whole population there?  IT's months.  And months.  And months.

They will not be ready.  No question.

The ineptness of the Thai government is staggering.

It’s amazing that the Covid Deniers disappear from topics about people dying from Covid.

That date is still almost two months away... I have no idea where Thailand's going to be come that time COVID wise... and whether their plan for reopening will remain on track or not.

Except, other than Phuket, not much of the rest of the country will have been vaccinated by then. And as for the Phuket portion, who knows.....

Are there really people who deny the existence of Covid?

ya, there are. I believe, some who claim the virus has never been scientifically identified as such or some such nonsense... And then there's the.. "it's really just the flu" folks...

Dying is nearly irrelevant.

When hospitals fill up with the sick, there is no health care.  That is why there are lockdowns.

If the Government dosn't get the their <deleted> together and take control of this country it wont be 2000 cases a day and 30 deaths it will be 5000 cases a day and 100 deaths a day real quick.

Look at India and Brazil.  If  you have a heart attack there, break a leg, anything happens you're on your own.

It's serious.

I am hopeful that the Thai people are taking this seriously.  The government clearly isn't.

278 deaths to date out of 66 million in over 16 months

So far, so good

Not quite the thousands that people were quoting to happen a couple of weeks after Songkran , but still rising slowly so far
