"Freelance massage women" operating nationwide - fears that this will spread Covid

Thai business media reported that one of the consequences of widespread closures of massage shops and spas in places like Pattaya and Bangkok had resulted in women going freelance.

 

Now there were "call centers" operating in Thailand - callers could dial in and get a visit from a massage girl at home anywhere in Thailand. 

 

This is fuelling fears of potentially spreading Covid-19 far and wide. 

 

One man calling for new laws and regulation of this aspect of the market is the chief of the spa and wellness association of the Eastern Seaboard Chairat Rattanaphat.

 

The freelancers there have been operating since 80% of the massage shops in Pattaya closed either temporarily or permanently.

 

Also 90% of restaurants are reportedly shut in Pattaya temporarily. 

 

Chairat wants help from the government for legitimate operators struggling to remain afloat and the whole matter of freelancers looked into. 

 

While it was understandable that people would try and make a living in this way he feared that it would mean only one thing - more Covid infections throughout the country as protocols in shops would surely not be followed privately. 

 

Online forums in Thailand are full of stories of women in massage - often a front for blatant prostitution in Thailand - having been forced online more and more to make ends meet. 

 

There are also reports that such women, as well as masseurs, were swelling the membership of dating sites, notes Thaivisa. 

 

Prostitution, so open on the streets and in the bars and nightclubs and restaurants of Thailand, especially in tourism hubs, has increasingly moved online throughout the pandemic. 

 

Of course it was already there, but now more so.

Is a factory full of illegal Burmese sorting shrimp not more likely to spread Covid.

Is allowing Bangkokians freedom to travel (Songkran for eg)  not more likely to spread Covid.

Is running buses between provinces  not more likely to spread Covid.?
