BANGKOK (NNT) - After 15 workers were found to have contracted the Indian variant of coronavirus, Bangkok City Hall has launched a clean up operation at the workers’ camp removing all garbage for safe disposal. Residents in the surrounding communities are urging related agencies to deep-clean the neighborhood to prevent transmission of the virus.

A 6 wheeler truck, and staff members in full protective suits from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s (BMA) Environment Department were deployed to a construction workers’ camp in Lak Si district today to remove garbage and waste items from the site, after 15 workers at the camp were found with the Indian variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus causing COVID-19.

The garbage was all put into red bags indicating infectious waste, before being disposed of safely at an outside facility.

All 15 workers have now been hospitalized and are undergoing treatment, while other residents of the camp are not allowed to leave the camp’s premisses. City Hall officials, policemen, and military personnel are on site 24-hours a day to prevent anyone from leaving or entering. The area is also being monitored by CCTV cameras.

Workers who are still at the camp are receiving three meals a day, which are dropped off at a designated location. Workers are allowed to leave their rooms to take their meals, and then return to their units.

The news of the Indian variant has caused concerns in the communities surrounding the camp. They are urging government agencies to perform deep cleaning with disinfectant spray in the area, to help prevent the transmission, and regain the confidence of the general public.

Yup, just imagine how dreadful it must be after a hard days manual work to have to sleep on duckboards inside a corrugated steal box in this heat. Pretty disgraceful really .

Yes not much better than than slave labour,  they get paid a pittance  but its better than having no income at all in their home countries  so they keep coming...very sad state  of affairs that "the world"  has thrown "endless" resources at attempts to eradicate the WuFlu   and so little at eradicating  hunger and poverty (wars)

Yes, thats why I was scrolling through the article.  I imagine a few of the cases left the camp for short shopping trips before the lockdown also.

Yep cleaning up rubbish and walking around spraying disinfectant in the air will work wonders lol....morons....and not the only country i've seen this brain dead behaviour.

Pretty obvious that is not the main source of infection spread.

How did they clean the air...because that's how the Sars-Cov2 virus is spread...or did they perform some Kabuki disinfection theater.
