Can you get new tourist visa in Bangkok?

Featured Replies

Is it possible to get a new tourist visa in Bangkok at the moment because of covid? I would normally go to Lao and get on there. I am a UK citizen.

I am just graduating from my uni course, waiting for my last grade and will have to cancel my ED visa (immigration told me this). While I wait for the degree and transcript documents (around 2 months) I will have to go on a tourist visa before going onto a Non-B and work permit. And before you ask, yes I can get confirmation of graduating from the uni, but that can take up to a month to get, so I will still need a visa till then. Also, if I stay on the ED visa, I could get stung for overstay if I don't cancel as soon as I finish the courses - someone  from my uni already had an overstay fine because of this.

What about you go here and you belong to a country that is being accepted by Thailand and you get 30 day VISA-free stay (tourist excempt) which can be extended by another 30 days..

No. You cannot get a Tourist Visa inside Thailand.

You could probably get a 60 day Covid Extension.

That would be my next question, can you switch from a non-ED to a covid exemption?

And can this then be exchanged for a Non-B in Bangkok once I get the uni documents through?

Previously Non-ED required leaving the country, but given the circumstances they should allow this to be converted to the Covid extension. Someone please chime in.

I just quit my job and went from Non-B to Covid extension. Be warned however, that you'll likely have to cancel your original visa in your original province, and this will create an issue if you're moving for a new job or school.

My old province gave me a 7-day under consideration, then I had to return for the remaining 60 days, requiring two 400 km round trips. I guess it was better than having to leave the country tho.

Switching your visa isn't possible, but also not required.

You just go to cancel your extension when your studies end and apply for a Covid extension (assuming this is still possible after May, afaik it hasn't been announced yet, but most likely they extend it)

When you have a job, and get the paperwork from the company that they are in the process of applying for a work permit for you, you apply for an extension based on working.

You should, emphasis on 'should', be able to get an exemption based on travel difficulties due to COVID19.
