Sanook reported that the Special Infantry Unit Department 4 investigating a pick-up truck at a checkpoint in Tak, northwest Thailand found a great cache of currency and gold in a cardboard box.

The officials were checking on an Isuzu that was carrying fruit at Tha Sai Luat on the border with Myanmar in Mae Sot.

A man placed a box by the pick-up and was stopped as he acted suspiciously.

In the box was 4,100,000 Thai baht, US $100,000 and five gold bars.

Ong Tu, a 27 year old Myanmar man, said he got it from a compatriot in Mae Sot and was told to put it there.

He is in custody and the currency and gold is in the hands of the Mae Sot police and customs.

Where it will remain for a while until investigations into it's origin are confirmed or the owner comes forward to claim it.

Basically, the stash HAS FOUND its (new) owners... Will never leave the station as a bundle, but in smaller packages. Some Mia Nois up there in Tak will be very pleased and give good service to their masters over the next few weeks...
