People taking off their masks when you are not looking. Like at home or work or when eating etc. They are only one line of defense but most of the masks being worn offer limited protection. Only properly fitted and leak tested N95 masks offer a high level of protection.
onthedarkside
Posts advocating the use of a drug to treat COVID patients that hasn't been approved for that use by any of the world's major health agencies have been removed, along with an ongoing series of totally off-topic comments. Also removed was a post that mischaracterized news reports on past U.S. funding and involvement with a research lab in Wuhan, China, along with several replies. 1

Statistically, I believe it’s right to say that most infections happen at home between close relatives. Not much mask wearing there. but masks aren’t 100% protection anyway, they just help. in Thailand you may have read about big clusters of cases in prisons, constructions sites and factories. I have no proof, but I would suspect that mask wearing was a pretty patchy practice at a lot of them. so masks are not THE answer. They are part of an answer, assuming that the question is “how to stop virus infections”.

With the government saying "x" amount are vaccinated this is very misleading. It only becomes effective 2 weeks after the second dose. Then only around 50% though it is believed to stop serious complications after the second dose. Actually less than that, only 3% according to the Chilean University who conducted the study A study in Chile, which has one of the furthest-advanced vaccination campaigns in South America -- mainly with China's Coronavac, has found that a first dose alone does not protect against coronavirus infection. The study by the University of Chile found inoculation to be 56.5 percent effective in protecting recipients two weeks after the second dose, and 27.7 percent effective within the first two weeks. But for a single dose, efficacy in the 28 days between the first and second dose was only three percent -- on par with the margin of error in such studies, it said. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20210406-first-covid-vaccine-shot-alone-not-protective-chile-study That said the Chilean Authorities as in the link posted earlier say its 16% after first dose. All very confusing with so many countries giving different results although either way its still very low protection on first dose. anchadian
Chonburi financially prepared to buy alternative vaccines but cannot be currently authorized due to the ‘central government only’ trading policy in Thailand Chonburi authorities said they were ready to purchase their own vaccinations for local residents but cannot proceed due to the ‘central government only’ trading policy in Thailand, regulated by the Ministry of Interior. The statements come as prominent residents and business owners in Chonburi, especially in Pattaya, have expressed their opinions on what they see as a slow vaccine rollout and no clear timetable around lifting Covid-19 related restrictions that have shuttered thousands of businesses and brought Pattaya to an economic halt due to its reliance on tourism and the entertainment industry. Currently, entertainment venues like bars and nightlife are ordered closed countrywide, the beaches are closed for socializing and relaxing, and alcohol is banned in restaurants. This combination, along with most tourist attractions shut, Koh Larn closed to tourists, many restaurants choosing not to open due to lack of tourists and the alcohol rules, and other restrictions like no parties, events, or social gatherings has seen Pattaya crippled currently, with large sections of the main part of the city virtual ghost towns with rows of shuttered shops and businesses. Wittaya Khunpluem, President of the Chonburi Provincial Administration Organization (PAO), told reporters today, May 30th, regarding the local administration organizations intent to purchase Covid-19 vaccines that the Chonburi PAO currently has accumulated funds of approximately 1 billion baht, which is sufficient in order to buy needed vaccinations for the province and expedite the current vaccination plan. https://thepattayanews.com/2021/05/30/chonburi-financially-prepared-to-buy-alternative-vaccines-but-cannot-be-currently-authorized-due-to-the-central-government-only-trading-policy-in-thailand/

That would be real banana republic stuff. 1
