Naew Na reported that Thais who are living across the border in Muang Singkorn (near the closed border post between Myanmar and Thailand in Prachuap Khiri Khan province) had got caught up in trouble between the Myanmar military and forces of the Karen National Union or KNU.

An unnamed Thai living there told them that some days ago KNU men had come to the village for help with rice and Thais had given their assistance.

But when the Myanmar authorities heard about this they came to the village and a potentially violent confrontation nearly ensued.

There were raids at a school and a temple.

This caused many Thais in the area to flee into the jungle then attempt to cross illegally back into Thailand to escape the trouble.

The border remains shut meaning that those fleeing trouble in the area have limited options.

Naew Na reported that the area has been tense since the military coup in Myanmar several months ago.

Tensions have increased with the presence of the KNU in the area.
