The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) has voiced its objection to a draft charter amendment, seeking to protect both elected MPs and non-elected senators from punishment for their interference in budgetary management and in officials’ rightful performance of their duties.

 

In a statement, issued Sunday, the ACT said that the deletion of the punitive clauses, in Sections 144 and 185 of the current Constitution, as proposed in the Palang Pracharat party’s draft amendment, will cause a huge setback in the fight against corruption committed by politicians and pave the way for legislators to be able to meddle in the affairs of permanent officials with impunity.

 

The ACT,  a foundation committed to the fight against corruption in public affairs, also pointed out that the Palang Pracharat draft amendment contravenes the principles of good governance and constitutes a conflict of interests, as defined in the United Nations Convention on Anti-Corruption 2003, to which Thailand is a signatory.

This was left there to get at the Shins, but they now realize it can be turned against them . . .

Once this passes, dead friends with watches will come gushing out of the woodwork depicted in the article.

One wonders why this isn't front page news. If anything can push Thailand back to 3rd or 4th world status it is an increase in corruption. 

Where was the ACT when NCPO Chief Prayut repeatedly invoked Article 44 to in part bypass anti-corruption laws with regard to contract awards?

It would be unsurprisingly that ACT might reverse itself upon further 'reflection' and 'clarification' from the PP, perhaps with some slight (but practically meaningless) modification to PP's proposal.

The fight was only supposed to be against the Shinawatras.

 

Now they have been dealt with the ruling party , Palang Pracharat ,  want to be as corrupt as it is possible to be without any risk or future comebacks .

 

This is what was meant by ' no elections before  patiroop ' when Suthep was protesting and shutting down Bangkok. 

 

Reform to put the corruption back into the hands of the unelected and unaccountable men with guns and their lackeys.

 

The Thais should take a look at how the Burmese are responding to the destruction of democracy. and follow their example. A task for all the people not just the young and students.
