Samut Sakhon: Grim picture as "factory capital" province that headed second wave battles third wave

The province of Samut Sakhon south west of Bangkok is in the grip of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Thailand.

Cases are rising yet there is very little vaccine for what has been described as the province that is the factory capital of Thailand.

The shrimp market there was famously the epicenter for the second wave of Covid in Thailand but now officals are combatting an even worse situation.

Manager reported that provincial governor Weerasak Wijitsaemngsri went on his personal Facebook page after a near six hour crisis meeting under the heading "Samut Sakhon (Must) Win".

He confirmed that 3 field hospitals comprising 1,500 beds are being set up and Rapid Antigen testing was being stepped up according to a "Khanom Khrok" plan.

This is a Thai dessert that looks like clusters on a hot pan.

He said that schools are all shut for onsite learning. He stated that many teachers had tested positive for Covid and opening schools could not be risked.

One teacher had died from Covid.

He also blamed selfishness and self-serving interests after it emerged that one massage shop was shut down after they served alcohol on the premisses.

He noted that there was not enough vaccine according to targets.

This was picked up by business Thansettakij media who referred to the province as the factory capital of Thailand due to the prevalence of industry there.

They said that a delegation of business leaders had begged Thai premier Prayuth Chan-ocha to provide more vaccine to workers there.

So far a request for 330,000 doses of vaccine was met with a supply of only 70,000, far short of what was needed.

This media referred to a "very worrying situation" in Samut Sakhon.

Prayut is well short of what the country deserves... he should have a vote of no confidence issued against him and asked to politely hand in his resignation which will not be challenged..

what does the government care, just another covid-19 case and a further death.

if they cared they would have arrangements for

enough vaccine and vaccinations for the country and for heard immunity.

HA-HA, guess again!!

just waiting for the TAT brochure for SS to be opened up to a million tourists who are interested in shrimp, massage and factory architecture.....

I hope people will remember when going to the ballots again.

Was talking today to an elderly Phuket native who has a reasonable business and he was dreaming of the time when Mr.T. was still in charge. And it looks like he represents the majority of the people now.
