Thailand on Thursday (July 1) reported 5,533 new COVID-19 cases and 57 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

● 5,489 new infections
● 44 prison / prison infections

Thursday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 264,834 with 2,080 deaths.
(Total infections since April 1: 235,971)

The news comes as Thailand said it would import nearly four million doses of Moderna's mRNA coronavirus vaccine towards the end of this year and a further one million in early 2022, for use by private hospitals.

Still no sign of flattening the curve.    Yet, they did nothing to prevent the mass migration of workers from the construction sites, after it was announced they would be closed. Until now.

A predictable trend unfortunately. Imagine if there was proper testing across the country.

So no positive news at the moment and it will only get worse.

Who would be crazy enough to come to a country that is spiraling into a very sorry state. Nobody wants to get back to Thailand as much as me, but not at the risk at the moment.

I can't see anything changing this year.

We can all see that the current measures are not working but for some unexplained reason those in charge decide its best to plan to open the country without containing the pandemic first.

Rolling 7 day average (up to 29th June only) which includes prison cases and bar chart of community cases.

All I can say is stay safe.  With these numbers they, or we all, are in for a long haul.  They seem to only care about building more treatment centers here in Bangkok and allowing Asymptomatic to stay at home and self isolate, which many of us know from past experience here in Thailand probably will not work.  Opening up Phuket will just showcase the polar opposite of what is occurring in the rest of the country.  Songkhla just today went on a 30 day lockdown and closed its beaches due to case numbers expanding.  I hope they know what they are doing with Phuket, not for the tourists sake, but for the sake of the Thai people and the businesses who have employed many for this re-start and possibly have not been tested to ensure they are negative for Covid and can not be spreaders to others around them or more importantly those vaccinated tourists.  The deaths are rising and are a major concern.  Please do your due diligence and take care of family and loved ones.  For those who say it is not a problem and all is right and few are dying, well we know your selfish, just like those who compare live human beings and tragedy to black and white numbers.

And they are very late to the game, when it comes to ordering the higher quality vaccines. They are stuck with the Sinojunk. I have spoken to many Thai people who will not take it. They know it is junk, we know it is junk. A true bottom of the barrel choice.

Up, up and away. A hardy congrats to the PM on showing the world just how good Thailand is at balancing the economy and Sars-Cov-2 spread. "Some risk must be taken". 14,800 community infections and 146 deaths in 3 days and well over 20,000 infections and over 200 deaths for this week. Some risk indeed.

You can be assured the numbers are 10 fold, and just a few weeks ago

Danderman said things have peaked at 2000 and Brewster budgen said all is well, everything should be wide open!

I thought Bolsonaro was running Brazil. Seems I was wrong and he's actually running Thailand.

This is another twin peaks day for Thailand, highest ever number of community infections at 5,489 and highest covid death count at 57.

What does the Czar do?

PM orders 1,500 more beds for Bussarakham Field Hospital

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the Public Health Ministry to add 1,500 beds to the Bussarakham Field Hospital in Nonthaburi’s Impact Muang Thong Thani for patients in the red and yellow groups to cope with rising daily infections, Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Wednesday.

Patients in the red group are those with severe symptoms that require respirators, while yellow group patients are those who display moderate symptoms but have underlying health problems that require close monitoring.

“Of the 1,500 beds to be added, 125 will be for the red group patients with severe symptoms,” Anutin said. “This addition will increase the field hospital’s capacity to 3,700 beds and reduce crowding at hospitals in metropolitan areas.”

As many of us have been saying for months, if they ramped up their testing nationwide, they'd find they have a multiple of these cases per day. 12K, 18K, who knows?

Their testing is defective. If they were smart, they'd pour significant resources into a national PREMPTIVE TESTING drive.

Alas, they are not smart.

Yeah, people, even our friends sometimes, are impaired in their ability to think critically.

Even Farang are often afflicted by this problem.

Songkhla just today went on a 30 day lockdown and closed its beaches due to case numbers expanding.

Lol, hardly anything resembling a "lockdown". Only difference I have personally noticed is that restaurants inside shopping malls only allow take out. Regular places are all open as usual, so are shops and supermarkets. Did hear something about a curfew, however last time that was announced, nobody seemed to care.

Not "everything", although I don't think banning dine-in eating will make much difference. I've accepted that not many here or in the government care much about education!

I misread my article, bad translating on my part it is a 30 day curfew.  If you say it is what you see then it must have been a PR stunt only along with the picture of the RTP being assigned to close of the beaches.

How can you POSSIBLY think that banning dine-in eating won't make a difference?

This is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air and doesn't need extended periods of time to infect.

Restaurants, especially in Thailand, are extremely close quarters with poor ventilation and one asymptomatic person eating there (or server) could very easily infect every person in there.

Seriously, what's your logic behind thinking that dining in a restaurant won't be an issue for spreading the virus?

Just now, ThailandRyan said:

Wouldn't put it past 'em. Or they might enforce the closure of the beach for the weekend and <deleted> off again next Monday.

I sympathize  with your situation in respect of your child. My daughter not going to school was the only part of any of Thailand’s lockdown that really bothered me. Fortunately the school ran a very good online program, but of course it still had severe drawbacks to normal school.

whether Thailand could introduce safe schooling through social distancing practices, we will never know because the government hasn’t shown any desire to consider it, as far as I know.

but it can’t be denied that a school is an ideal place for the virus to spread among children and be carried back to households and spread on from there.

it’s a sad situation.
