Popular Post webfact
Picture: Sanook Sanook reporters went to the Bali Hai port in South Pattaya where they found it busy yesterday with Thai and foreign families and friends crossing over to Koh Larn. Officials from City Hall were in evidence from the entrance to the port checking Thai IDs and passports, they said. People were getting on speedboats and ferries even though there was an 8 pm to 4 am alcohol ban that had just been introduced. In their headline they said that Pattaya tourism operators wanted their resort to be opened up to foreigners like Phuket. In the body of their story they said this particularly referred to Koh Larn. They quoted a ferryman called Naruphon Raksa, 31, as saying that there were only mostly Thai tourists at the weekend and much of Pattaya was dead at other times. Their bread and butter - foreign group tours - were all absent and everyone was suffering and needed Pattaya to be reopened as soon as possible. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2021-07-05
Popular Post RichardColeman
Thai covid boom. Phuket sandbox in the region of 50 or less arrivals on planes. Vaccine chaos. Personally I think Pattaya is completely doomed this year. I am forever taking 2 steps forwards to get back to the wife and then 3 steps back !

Popular Post fulhamster
If they want to re-open Pattaya then vaccinations for ALL residents are imperitive. And that includes expats living here - as of today we cannot even register locally as we are told Thais only. Only other option is to pay up with a private hospital for an unknown vaccine on an unknown date. And now they want those of us on OA visas to take out insurance in case we catch covid. 4 2

You can see here clearly - the alcohol ban alone doesn't work... 1

Fully vaccinated tourists who are tested before their flight, tested again before they can leave their hotel, and tested once more before they can leave Pattaya. Vaccinated, tested tourists, VTT's. How are they a risk for anyone in Pattaya? And even more to the point, how are they more dangerous than anyone who's already in Thailand- unvaccinated and untested. Sure, they need to fully vaccinate. But that will take months, maybe years at the rate they're going. And why would they keep out VTT's and their sweaty tourist money in the meantime? They're the safest customers in all of Thailand. Edited July 5, 2021 by impulse

I've no issues with requiring insurance even after vaccination, as long as the rates are adjusted to reflect the miniscule risk of a vaccinated person requiring expensive care. Even vaccinated people can test positive and need to be quarantined (under Thai practices). And that costs money. But they won't need $$$ ICU level care. Sadly, the insurance rates don't reflect the decrease in risks.

Wont work in Phuket. As soon as you step out of your hotel and take a walk there are non SHA+ certified businesses, touts, food carts, even desperate women offering whatever. What happened to covid minders? The guides assigned to stick 24/7 to keep you on sealed routes? 1 1
