Quarantine,

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

A teacher who has just left an ASQ hotel in BKK is travelling to Nong Khai on an overnight bus

and should get here this morning, the question i have is as he is leaving a red zone under Thai

law does he have to self isolate for 14 days, he flew in from London 2 weeks ago and because

he left an ASQ clear he thinks he is ok to get here and go straight out and have a look at the

place,

i'm  sure he has to quarantine but just looking for clarification,

thanks in advance.

It will come down to the rules at the destination, there is no blanket law/rule that covers all of Thailand.  Whether quarantine is required is under the control of the provincial or local government and can change at a moments notice. The best place to find the information would be the local area health/Gov website for the destination.

77 provinces and 100s of local governments all making local rules for quarantine, testing, new arrivals etc.

Not sure how you can make this statement, A quarantine doesn't make you immune to catching the virus 5 minutes after leaving quarantine. A quarantine doesn't exempt you from further quarantine, especially if you are travelling from a red zone to yellow etc

but that is exactly what is happening in practise in thailand for a year - free to travel anywhere unhindered to your destination after leaving asq. I haven't read here otherwise. Probably the easier option was phuket sandbox

He'll be given documentation that confirms he has just completed quarantine and shouldn't need to do it again when arriving in Nong Khai.

But as with anything here, best to get the latest the info from authorities in Nong Khai. They could have their own rules in place.

So there is ZERO chance of him getting infected on the bus journey??    I think he will most certainly need to Self Quarantine on arrival.  He will need to Register his arrival via scanning a QR code and notify his address in Nong Khai.

that's the current law and practice.

He has paid large sum of money at asq.

Many people will rent a car, a properly divided taxi, ask friends/family from asq to destination. He has chosen public bus. At destination an overzealous official might pick up on him out of racism/nationalism rather than law. Most probably most passengers don't have any documents, tests etc. He was also, most probably, already vaccinated in the UK with good vax

He just left quarantine in a deep red zone, then traveling to another province, it will depend on Nong Khai if they want to do anything on arrival. I would have thought he'd have to report to the health authority in the area on arrival so they can monitor him at least.... or more if they want to.
