Buriram police chief defends giving officers third dose of Covid-19 vaccine

The chief of police in the north eastern Thai province of Buriram has defended officers under his command who have received their third dose of vaccine.

He has said they are frontline workers handling sick people from Bangkok and the vaccine used was "leftovers in the bottle".

This came as millions of people in Thailand have not even had a first dose of vaccine and online comment was heavy after pictures emerged of the officers in Ban Mai Chaiyaphot district being jabbed.

Pol Maj-Gen Rutthaphol Naowarat said that the officers concerned were volunteers working on the "Tham Dee Duay Hua Jai" initiative to repatriate people sick with Covid to the provinces for treatment.

They had helped 40 sick people so far.

He said there had been no queue jumping involved as his officers were frontline like other medical staff, reported Daily News.

Besides, he said, each bottle of vaccine had ten doses and there were always a couple in each bottle left over that were used for his men.

don't know what to say really

2 doses not enough while at risk people in Buriram have not even had one dose

who gave you permission to take these vaccines - why are the police making medical decisions - who empowered you to do that or did you just bully your way and take them ...................................... shameful

Another example of...name it.

"leftovers in the bottle". what that the jelly......

regards worgeordie

The explanation is reasonable and sound. Those on the front line must be protected

If there were “extra” doses left in the bottles than give it to the people who need it most. Sure frontlines need to be protected as they are in the line of fire, but most those have PPE’s and at least 2 more doses that millions in need. Take care of your people.

Over 60's and those with underlying medical conditions to the back of the queue please!
