No I am looking above that. Of course these things are important but the rest of Thailand seems to have missed out whilst the focus was on a face saving exersise to show that Thailand is ready to open up. Economic gain and in reality not that much and in the end will have caused more hardship for the population and economy as a whole.

Yes, as always in Thailand face-saving is involved. In March 2021 when the "sandbox" was announced, Thailand had less than 100 total deaths. Vaccinations were a minor issue.

The Phuket Sandbox is just a trial. It hasn't been a financial success, but it has shown that vaccinated foreigners aren't a danger to Thailand.

Thailand can't simply drop their restrictions on tourism until they have enough data to show that it is safe to do so.

There has been some comments made about there being 2 sides to this problem in Thailand. I live here and have made my home with my wife and 19 month old son. I think you have to sit back and just look at the situation honestly.

I do not feel that there is one person who lives here who does not want to see the country get out of this mess and have tourism back. We all want to get people back in work so others from around the world can enjoy their time here.

But we have to be realistic about this. Until we can get this virus under control and get the vaccinations out to everyone, then this will not happen. Nobody wants to visit a country where the virus is rife, nothing is open and in a semi lockdown. Until this changes then I am afraid tourism is just not going to happen. Don't get me wrong as I want to see everything come back to life so I can go touring around the country and show my son different sights and animals. It is not going to happen as things stand at the moment.

The government has cocked this up big time and nobody can say any different. The vaccine roll out has been a farce from day one for everybody because somebody never thought about procuring vaccines at the right time. Now we are playing catch up and that is very dependent on the supply of vaccines. I am still waiting to get mine as I am 66 and registered with my local hospital. Have to wait until Thais are done which is fair comment. Only Sinovac available now which is not suitable for my age group nor acceptable if I have to fly to UK. I have missed out on being able to be with my Mum in the UK for her 90th in July as well as other functions. Just cost prohibitive and too many unknowns undertaking a trip like that and I do not want to be away for months missing the boy.  Registered with the expat site and still awaiting a message to let me know where and when. The hope for Pfizer is diminishing now and it may be AZ. We are registered privately for the Moderna, whenever that will materialise! A friend has just messaged me to say he arrived UK Friday gone at 09.00 and had his first jab at 12.30!! That is how crazy it is unfortunately!

So yes, I want to put a positive spin on everything but looking at facts and figures does make that difficult at times. Yes, get this country opened up again but only when it is safe to do so otherwise what is a bad scenario at the moment could get worse and none of us want that to happen. Nobody can predict what the next 6 months will bring us as things stand and we have to take each day as it comes and hope that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Pretty much summed it up nicely Sir.

How BioNTech created a new delta-focused COVID vaccine in just a few weeks

BY ADELE PETERS

As the super-contagious delta variant began to spread widely, scientists at BioNTech, the Germany-based company that partnered with Pfizer to make the first approved COVID-19 vaccine, went into the lab to quickly create a new version of the vaccine that specifically targeted the variant.

Because the company uses mRNA technology—a type of vaccine that uses the genetic code for a key protein in the virus to teach the body to make that protein and learn how to fight it off—editing the vaccine involves a relatively simple change in the code. “The vaccine we are using now has the original spike protein, and the only thing we basically need to do is cut out this part and take the spike protein of the delta variant,” says Özlem Türeci, co-founder and chief medical officer of BioNTech...

Over 15,500 in Bangkok tested positive for COVID-19 with Antigen kits last week

The tests were from the third round of active screening, conducted in congested communities in the capital by the ministry and rural doctors. 15,074 were subsequently sent for RT-PCR tests, with 2.1% or 323 of them found to be in a serious condition and 69.5% having only mild symptoms or were asymptomatic, said Deputy Permanent Secretary for Health Dr. Yongyuth Thammawut.

So this helps explain how the kits are helping, but at the same time only a few eventually make their way into a facility for treatment and into the actual reported cases numbers.  Why do they not count them all as a case. They are positive and are being treated with medicines, are they not?

As I don't believe the number of infections which are published, which I think are under reported,  and don't believe the number of recoveries, more like discharged from and sent home to recover...

People who are vaccinated? People who are scared of their own shadow won't be going to any foreign countries for years, so let's forget about them.

????????? Flights to Spain, Italy, Greece, Romania are full, every Saturday traffic jams in France, Germany and Austria. People have started travelling already as they were dreaming to go on vacation.
