Workers Need More COVID Vaccinations

BANGKOK, Aug 25 (TNA) – The Thai Chamber of Commerce sought more COVID-19 vaccine doses from the government to cover all workers in the manufacturing sector to protect the economy.

Poj Aramwattananont, vice chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said that COVID-19 vaccine provision should cover not only workers under Section 33 of the Social Security Act but also 1.3 million workers outside the social security system for the protection of workers in all manufacturing groups. The reopening of the country and COVID-19 control required vaccinations for workers in all sectors, he said.

Ongoing vaccine supplies were insufficient and could worsen labor shortage and affect production for export and local consumption, Mr. Poj said.

It’s too funny. All this <deleted> and that curve would have looked exactly the same if we did nothing.

Time will tell us the truth.

The problem as I see it, in the absence of knowledge you do nothing. And we do seem to know nothing about covid. We haven’t the slightest clue why it’s doing what it’s doing. When you don’t understand the variables of what is going on around you, do nothing. Otherwise you are like a Martian on earth wanting to pour gas or water on the fire, and you choose the gasoline because you don’t have knowledge about the variables.

i'm with you to some extent.  i think the lockdowns are given too much credit for the 'success' of bringing the numbers down (cases/deaths).  but it does seem like some type of restrictions are needed, office workers as an example, filling up office towers with people in major cities doesn't seem like a good idea.  restaurants should remain open with limited capacity seating.  some countries can manage this type of 'very limited lockdown' better than others.  i think the damage being done to the children will show up soon enough and will be far worse than people expect.  i sure hope i'm wrong on that one.

i've also always wondered why one can't travel from a 'red zone' to another 'red zone'.  last winter, why not have flights btwn the USA and the UK for example.  both had huge infection rates.  would it really make a difference if thousands of people flew btwn the two countries each day ?   i understand why western australia does not want anyone from new south wales rolling into town right now.

there are lots of things to say on the matter but again i don't think the lockdowns have saved as many lives as the 'experts' often tout and the curve comes down, lockdown or no lockdown.

Toddlers must also be jabbed to boost herd immunity, advises virologist

Chulalongkorn University’s virology specialist Dr Yong Poovorawan on Wednesday suggested that Covid-19 jabs be provided to children aged three and above in a bid to create herd immunity.

"Even though children may not develop severe symptoms, they should not be virus carriers," he said.

I thought that you can still be infected by, and transmit (i.e. carry), the virus even when vaccinated (albeit you're less likely to get serious symptoms yourself).

Yet here a virus specialist argues for the vaccination of this group because "they should not be virus carriers" ... inferring one is not a carrier if vaccinated.

Surely you know that once vaccinated the likelihood of you passing it to others "if" you get infected again decreases dramatically.

Yes, to good to be true.

Not really. They just shifted out 10's of thousands who 'probably' didn't need to be in hospital but still need some care or medication and called them recovered.

Urgent call for blood donations as Thai hospitals face critical shortage

The Thai Red Cross Society is beseeching the public to donate blood urgently, saying that the country’s hospitals are experiencing a critical shortage of blood reserves for patients, forcing the postponement of many vital surgeries.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dutjai Chaivanichsiri, director of the National Blood Centre of the Thai Red Cross Society, said today (Thursday) that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a substantial drop in blood donations, adding that there has been a shortage of donated blood for some time, but the situation has recently become critical.

Relatives shun baby boy of parents hospitalised with Covid

A child under two years old, whose parents are infected with Covid-19, could not find any caregivers among relatives despite testing negative.

On Wednesday, a rescue team in Nakhon Ratchasima province took two infected persons -- the baby's mother and her cousin -- to Suranaree University of Technology Hospital.

Both had contracted the virus from the woman’s husband, who had been admitted to the same hospital on Monday.
