That they made a poor decision (They seem to be happy to stay and she met family that she hadn't seen for two years) She is choosing to not spend £3k in order to rush home. Please, go back to the article and show us mere mortals the bleating and whinging, the confirmation of lack of funds and where you think they have made a poor decision and are suffereing. What is clear is that the whinging and bleating is actually coming from the posters on this very forum. I see no such behaviour from the couple featured. But you weren't suggesting that a few minutes ago. The point is that they simply told their story as likely someone in the media reached out to people who were affected by the change of Thailand to Red. There is no complaining nor whinging; just the telling of their story. But somehow it has managed to whip up some readers into a frenzy; filling in parts of the story with their own 'facts' that don't actually exist. I mean all of us have had girlfriends do that to us; but supposedly experienced men...what is happening?! ????

If you are on a gap year then there will be no great urgency to return to the UK, so best to look at other destinations first. Secondly, I am sure the bank of Mum and Dad can be called upon at a push. After all they have probably financed the gap year travelling anyway. They usually do. This young couple are busy whinging about a minor inconvenience, which is entirely of their own making, and in this case based on their poor decision and lack of funds to bail them out of predicament that poor decision making led them into. JustAnotherHun
No sympathy from us grumpy old expats for those young people who wanted to have some fun after a year long lockdown and who could not know about quarantaine costs because there were none when they left their home country? Great! Nice! So save your tears for crying about visa rules, mandatory healthcare and rising living costs. 2

dunroaming
Let's not forget that Thailand has always attracted different levels of tourists. From those who head to the 5* resorts to be pampered and spoiled rotten, to the cheap Charlies who go for cheap booze, cheap drugs and cheap sex.
