Retailers report a sharp increase in sales of mid-range laptops as people bought them for gaming, online schooling and working purposes.

In August, FPT Shop saw a significant rise in laptop sales: 30 percent month-on-month and 100 percent year-on-year.

The VND20-million (US$862) segment experienced a 70 percent spurt from the previous month and 200 percent compared to the same month in 2020.

The first thing is that the report is from Vietnam and not Thailand.

The second thing is that there is no start figure so 30% month on month or 100% year on year means nothing unless there is a number to start from.

For example if in August 2020 they sold 100,000 units then they would have sold 200,000 in August this year. However if they only sold 1,000 last year then they would only have sold 2,000 this year.

30% month on month over 12 months doesn't seem to be the same as 100% year on year.
