PHUKET: The latest Phuket Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO) daily COVID situation report has marked 232 new local infections confirmed across the island yesterday (Sept 5) bringing the total number of people recognised as infected with COVID-19 in Phuket since Apr 3 to 5,727.

The PPHO report, marked as accurate as of 11:55pm last night but posted online at 6:33am this morning, marked no new cases of Phuket Sandbox tourists being confirmed as infected.

However, the report marked one new death attributed to COVID-19 for yesterday, bringing the total number of deaths in Phuket attributed to COVID-19 since Apr 3 to 28.

Onward and upward...and the island is not even open to anyone but vaccinated people.

Well

(1) there are MANY who are still not yet fully vaccinated,  and

(2) NONE of the vaccines, not one, are 100% effective at preventing infection - and NONE of the vaccines are 100% effective at preventing death.

As opposed to preventing infections, the vaccines are better at reducing the risk of serious illness and they are better reducing the risk of death.

So everyone does the best they can ....  the situation is dynamic.

Closing the island to only vaccinated (with no quarantine), is not a surprise, and many other places in the world are now adopting something similar, if one wishes to avoid a quarantine.  And one can still find a country that require a 3-week quarantine, even IF fully vaccinated.

Well said. Occasionally someone distills it down to it's reasonable core.

This is a race to vaccinate the Thai population before it goes Covid nuclear. The hospitals are full. These are really hard times and tourists don't belong here now!
